They messed with The Screen Savers again. They dumped Alex who I was just getting used to. Kevin stepped down to do geekier dark segments and they got another Kevin to replace him and Chi-Lan (whom I’ve seen on TSS before?). I guess they got rid of Dan (Foo) and Yoshi. And they dumped the fun opening too (at least so far)…

I guess this explains the reruns the last few weeks…

And I’ve never seen Patrick make a guest appearance after he was gone from the last shakeup.

Cellular (New Line Platinum Series) David R. EllisWow what an intense movie! I’m sure you’ve seen the previews: Kimmy gets kidnapped, the ‘nappers smash the phone in the attic, but she taps the wires together and finally dials a number and gets a guy on his cell phone and has to convince him it’s not a crank call. It’s non-stop excitement film and I’m not sure what else I can tell you without giving parts away. A few good one-liners. The first half was all suspense and the second was all action… William H. Macy, who is always great, is in it and you’ll recognize a bunch of other faces.

So I signed up for getting some of my prescriptions by mail. I just got my first shipment. Here’s my pros & cons…

Pro: It’s only $2 for a 90 day supply (normally $15). That’s only 66 cents a month instead of $5 dollars. They’ve got pharmacists available 24 hours a day (although I waited 10-15 minutes today).

Cons: If I wait until the last minute it’ll take 4 days to get more. If I get something different (wrong) I get a 3 month supply; if I had been at the store and looked at it I could have had them swap it or something.

So the differences were the allergy medicine was the “real” stuff when I’ve only ever had the generic, it’s different in the active ingredients so we’ll see how that works for me. One of the other ones was the “same” but tablet not capsule, it’s “exactly the same” but if I want the capsule instead I need the doctor to rewrite it (why if it’s exactly the same? they made the judgement call to give me the tablets, not the capsules…).

Did I tell you it’s only $2 for a 3 month supply?!? (That’s as close to “free” as you can get).

As they’d say on Jeopardy, “What is Podcasting?”. This is the greatest new thing people with iPods (or other mp3 players) use to get their own custom “radio shows”. People on-line have been doing different kinds of audio broadcasts for a while now. Places like ITconversations or people doing audio blogs (etc.) have been puting the audio out there but you would have to go get it and put it on your player. With programs like iPodder you can subscribe to these services and automatically check and pull them down and put them in your iTunes to be synced automatically the next type you plug in your iPod. Not all audio programs out there are subscribe-able yet. I’ll list some of the programs below that I like and you can subscribe or just listen. To subscribe you’ll need the RSS feed for that site so if you’re just looking you’ll want to check out the main site.

Different services out there that you might like I like are:

  • IT Conversations RSS
  • Inside Mac Radio RSS
  • Reel Reviews RSS
  • PurpleStars: daily adventures of a techy girl RSS
  • The Laporte Report Audio Edition RSS
  • Engadget Podcast RSS

Speaking of Nicolas Cage who was once rumored to play the part of Superman in a new movie, I read a new rumour today. It was mentioned that Jason Behr, from Roswell the Series (and who was just in The Grudge which I didn’t know he was in) with Sarah Michelle Gellar, may be slated to play Superman and his alter-ego in the next movie installment. (Interview magazine, November 2004, page 38). I like Jason, but I’m not sure how I feel about that…

NationaltreasureSo on a whim I went to see National Treasure tonight. It had the potential to be not so good, so I was a little ambivalent about it.

It was excellent! DaVinci Code meets Indiana Jones with a little Jerry Bruckheimer thrown in for some chase scenes. His sidekick (Justin Bartha) was fun and Diane Kruger was great (and while I thought she was familiar she’s relatively new to the US movie scene).

So since I’ve moved back to the Detroit area I don’t don’t see some of my family as much. Here’s why: I’m now about 30-35 minutes away from most of them compared to 90 minutes. That might not make sense since I’m closer to them, but when I was 90 minutes away (East Lansing area) I came and spent the day or maybe the day and part of the next day and while I was there I’d visit others, heck if it was nice I’d rollerblade or bicycle around town and visit others. Now I’ll just head in, have dinner (or do whatever the mission is) and head home; voila 3 hours later and I’m home and visited for 2 hours where before that was just the the travel time.

End result: I’ve probably seen Mom as many hours as I normally do (partially since she’ll come my way more often) and I’ve gotten to a few more birthday’s (cousin’s kids) that I might have missed but where I’m lacking (and I’ve been very aware of it) is seeing my Grandparents on my father’s side. I don’t really see that side of the family much but I did used to visit my grandparents a lot more often (at least every other visit into town). Communication wasn’t always good, I’d generally hear about illnesses or operations after the fact.

So the point is (you knew I’d get to it eventually) is that my Grandfather is in the hospital and so I spent a few hours at the hospital with him and that side of the family last night. I’m under the impression it’s really not good. He seemed pretty conscious but they had this high velocity oxygen mask (I’m not kidding, his eyelids and cheeks flutter when it blows, I’m pretty sure it’s to help him breathe but to avoid something more invasive like intubating him) so it was pretty had for him to talk or the hear him or for him to hear us. I’ll know more later but I’m thinking it’s not really good.

And the darn phone keeps ringing, I guess I should answer it or at least play the messages…

Get your Free DNA Testing Kit . You can get paternity, aunt/uncle, sibling, 1st cousin and more! To run the tests when you send it back costs money, but you never know when you might need one of these things…

Also they have a DNA Problem Solving Workbook for your learning enjoyment. (You never know when this stuff might be on the MEAP).

I hope everyone has time today to think about the things we are all thankful for. Of course I’m thankful for my family, friends, health and all that stuff but there are so many extras that we take for granted.

I’m thinking if you’re reading this over the holiday weekend there are some assumptions I can make about readers (bloogees?) and what they we may take for granted: a computer, Internet access (high speed?) and the skills to do all this. Assuming you have all that, it probably means you’ve got food, shelter, heat and necessities that others may not have.

This (Internet stuff) is what some of us do for fun and if you’re like me you go into withdrawal if you don’t have access for a while, but it’s really a privilege and most of us don’t think of it that way any more. These days it seems like some of these things are necessities of life but we need to remember and be thankful for them…

That’s it, I’m done with my sermon. Just be thankful for everything and don’t take too much for granted. Have a Happy Holiday and drive careful.

112304_CompleteU2The Complete U2 is only available from the Apple iTunes store. It includes every album they’ve ever done, 40 unreleased tracks and a digital booklet. As far as I can tell it’s 446 songs for only $149.99 (you get $50 off if you bought the U2 iPod).

Now while that’s only 35 cents a song, you have to consider anyone who wants to buy it probably owns a good chunk of the albums already so it’s really costing more than that to get the new songs… If you were U2-geeky enough to get the U2 iPod an extra $100 is probably a no brainer…

So the iTunes free song of the week is Anna Nalick‘s “Breathe (2AM)”, this is a great song. Pretty earthy but a few of her other samples seem like there might have more of a beat. It’s only free until Monday the 29th(?).

Check out Single of the Weekher site for more info and more clips…)

I had actually bought it already… It was recently in a movie or on a WB/UPN show and I really enjoyed it. Free is good!

After this week click here – Anna Nalick

112304_SarahMcLachlanPS – They just released Sarah Mclachlan’s Afterglow Live (I’m assuming an exclusive to iTunes) with 15 live tracks for $9.99…

So it’s been a little busy lately. But too busy for blogging…? Here’s a quick update.

  • rearranging my living room some, trying to make some more room for watching the “tube”.
  • above rearranging should help with room for holiday decorating (i.e. tree).
  • if it actually snows this this week that’ll motivate with the tree.
  • finished three (yes 3) of the books I’ve been concurrently reading (Moneyball, A shortcut Through Time and _____). I’ll do some reviews later (yeah, right).
  • I found my misplaced copy of Cooking To Hook Up, which I should read. Coincidentally, the week after Thanksgiving has traditionally been a good dating week for me, so I should probably start studying… Don’t ask me why I remember this but I’ve noticed it more than once.
  • I got another 2,500 songs loaded up on my iPod. The hard part is now figuring out what parts of my collection is not on there.
  • Saw the Incredibles, very fun. I will review this soon…

This episode was probably the saddest ever. It might be the saddest show I ever saw on television. What I don’t understand is why can’t they make an episode and make my laugh that hard?

And I’m really nervous that Joan is going to lose it and their going to send her back to cRaZy cAMp. By herself…

Which is pretty scary considering she’s probably got a grip better than most of the other people in Arcadia.

Good movie. Saw it at the second run theatre for a whole $1.50! Good print quality! A bit to similar to the first though. Too much chasing, not enough McGuyver-ing, some interesting plans/schemes by Bourne and not enough Julia Stiles (and I’m still traumatized sad that I didn’t get to see her in Oleana when I was in London)

What gets me about most of these movies is most them them could be cleared up (or at least explained) by a short phone call, a voicemail, an e-mail from any internet cafe or a fax from the local Kinkos.

It was a relatively normal weekend but that stores/malls were packed. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet! And on the other had since I was there, and the sales were good I did by more than a few presents while I was out. Wasn’t my plan, but it’s nice to be ahead of the game!

What else did I do this weekend…? Oh I had a five (5) hour meeting at work on Saturday, that’s where the day went.

Otherwise I shopped, relaxed and slept. Right now I’m at the burger joint that has WiFi but it’s broken today :(

In a minute second I’m outta here and off to see the Bourne Supremacy.

Rats – I just realized I still need groceries too…

So I’ve never been able to figure out this website design problem, and evey few months it starts to bother me. My blog is supposed to look like this but it looks like this. You can see it only goofs up where the date book (style dayday)

Generally it looks good except in IE (mac/win) and then the columns look funny. I can tweak it (add a position:relative tag to the white box [blogbody] with the border) and make the columns look more even, BUT then I lose 95% of the images in Windows IE (it doesn’t seem to be consistent to if they have link tags or not). And whenever I start I’m always having to start messing with the z-indexes which never seem to help….

If you’re not sure, this is a plea for help!!!

I got motivated on this because SimpleBits refereed to this page which I thought might be relevant but it wasn’t (so far).

So maybe this just should be IE hell for the title…

Imax.PolarSo I just got back from The Henry Ford and seeing the Polar Express and it was excellent. I knew it might seem strange but there were lots of action scenes. With the 3D with action scenes were wild. Oh and did I mention it was at the iMax IMAX?

If you have any interest in seeing this then go see it! Better yet, see it in 3D…

Kids would like this, my question is: Since the movie is about people doubting about Christmas, would it make some kids doubt it?

I really don’t remember the original story but it was great. Tom Hanks was the voice and model for several of the characters. Lots of music some new and some old. Be sure to pay attention to the Elf singing on stage at the end, he looks familiar…

So this thing is great. If you’re not sure what this thing is I’m talking about my new iPod Photo 60GB music/photo player (15,000 photos or 25,000 photos). I knew I’d like it, I’ve missed my MP3 player for the car (I had a 20 GB in the trunk model). I’ve got several thousand songs on this thing and I’m really liking podCasting (downloading radioshows and talk shows, some Internet only) to listen to when I want to.

I hate “ear buds” and I’m actually starting to like these (but I keep getting them all tangled up). It seems that other non-ear bud people seem to like them too.

I’ve barely looked at the photo options so far but it seems like a nice bonus. The photos scroll through SO fast it’s not even funny. It’s like something from a sci-fi show where the show the digital photo album and scroll through the photos at 200 miles per hour. Apple said they didn’t include video, but it’s fast enough for that but they just didn’t sync the audio to it. Maybe someone will patch it for that…

The key thing is I love it and I know there are still a lot of capabilities that I haven’t even come close to tapping into yet.

I’ll chat more about the other features later (and what is podcasting).

This thing holds the equivalent of:

  • Vinyl Records = 843 lbs.
  • Compact Disks = 127 lbs.
  • Cassettes = 42 lbs.
  • 60GB iPod photo = 6.4 ounces

KheiglIsn’t it strange that on all the different shows that Katherine Heigl has been on that she has done at least three different rolls with several versions of the same (semi-unique?) name? That would be Roswell Grey’s Anatomy and Wuthering Heights she played Isabel and Isobel and Isabel. I just think that’s a little weird…

I’ll mention the fourth Aizy (from Critical Assembly) because it’s a lot like several of the nicknames she had for Isabel (Izzie and Issa). You can see this all at her listing on the IMDB.

She’s supposed to be on a new show Grey’s Anatomy and when I looked up to see when it started I saw her name so it made me start thinking. (FYI – It’s now slated for January 2005)

Did you know she’s engaged to Jason Behr who played her brother on Roswell?

It’s a little annoying that when comments get spammed because I have the plugin (scode captcha) that asks you the the little question before you post. I can’t imagine they just put in the code for the dozen spam messages, so maybe they got past it somewhow. I’ll take some tips on this if you have them (MT 2.661).captcha code

The odd thing is that it’s just a message full of URLs and the word penis and viagra (etc.) all over it. I’d probably not notice it as quick if they only did one (instead of a dozen). But what I don’t get is why doesn’t the message say something more like, “It’s great the you got a new iPod Photo, but you should see what I bought and I’m sure it made my sex life better than your new iPod did.” I’m sure they’d get a few more takers to click on it…

Sidebar: Now currently I don’t have much of a sex-life but and since there is not a significant other at this point that’s okay. So if that’s the case and I’m going to be walking around with something hard in my pocket all day it might as well be something I’m using (like an iPod).

I am looking to change this part, the significant other part (the sex part comes much later). So if you think I’m a nice read or have a friend who would might think so… I can always be reached at the address on my About Me page.

So I was just looking at the latest issue of The Week (crummy web site, interesting magazine). It says Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (the city of brotherly love) has “the best tippers in the country” at an average of 19.2% so they just happen to have a bunch of generous people living there?

Isn’t more likely they have a bunch of hard workers there?

It’s such a sunny day and I didn’t have any appointments/meetings today so I took the afternoon off! A few errands, so organizing around the house and a few things to do in the garage that I’d rather do before it gets much colder…

And I get an Olga and an Orange Creme Cooler for lunch! Most importantly I’ll be getting some sun while I do most of this :)

So why would you want a portable XM radio that’s $350 dollars (and $10 a month) that you need to be able to connect to the satellite with when you could buy an iPod (or something similar, I suppose) put whatever you have on it and play what you want when you want it?? For $50 less you can carry 5,000 songs or $50 more you could carry 10,000!

I’ll get my iPod review up soon (tonight or Saturday). I love it but I need to elaborate (I even have constructive criticism for my very few complaints)

So it looks like the election’s over. No final counts yet but it’s close 51%/48% (and I’m assuming it’ll be Bush) but either way I hope the winner doesn’t get too smug, it was pretty close. My point here is that really close to half of the country voted for the other guy. That means half of the people care about the other issues enough to go vote. I hope the that the winner keeps this in mind when making decisions — that many people aren’t thrilled with their way of doing things…

There are only 55 shopping days left until Christmas! How does that make you feel? Do you shop on-line or in the stores? Do you try to get it all done early or are you a last minute shopper? Do you have a Christmas Club? Is the holiday season stressful for you or do you enjoy it? Describe any emotions or feelings you tend to have during this time of the year! For some, the holidays are a difficult time! For some, it is a joyous time! Tell us how you handle this time of the year.
I can’t believe it’s November already! I’ve already got some (very little) shopping done, a few books or kids things that I’ve seen on sale. Most will be done early, the rest will be last minute (mostly the people I just couldn’t find the “right thing” for and at that point I now “need it”. What’s a “Christmas Club?” It’s a little stressful for the required celebrations. It would be a lot more fun if I was dating someone.
