I was Wondering About Apple’s Weekly Releases…

Apple has released or upgraded/refreshed something new every Tuesday since MacWorld. This week there was nothing. The stranger thing is that I didn’t hear much (anything?) about it. I did recall him saying something at the keynote like ’50 more weeks to go’ and it was just odd at the way it sounded, so when they kept rolling things out I thought that was pretty great and maybe it was a weekly thing.

But I see that Leo Laporte just mentioned an Apple Event tomorrow, so maybe there will be something announced there…

After Google-ing around, I’m guessing it’s just the SDK kit for the iPhone / iTouch. Although if it’s not an actual product, it’s still not following the pattern.

LATER REVEALED: I haven’t watched the Steve Jobs presentation yet. But it looks like it’s the SDK that was expected, it’s $99, I’m not sure if that was expected and it’s free (see comments). Also they have a way to be in the “Enterprise beta” program, but I don’t know if I’d want my enterprise testing new software if it’s not finalized yet. But the “remote wipe” sounds like a great option if you’ve got secure data. The “Exchange Sync” looks nice that’ll convince a few BlackBerry users to jump; is it coincidence that Google released an Exchange / Outlook to Google Calendar Sync yesterday?

300 Page iPhone Bill

So Justine from TastyBlogSnack.com got her detailed phone bill from AT&T for her new iPhone. They have detailed billing and she had about 30,000 text messages last month. It cost them $7.12 to mail her the bill in a box.

Insane that her bill is that long, but it’s also insane that iJustine does a 1,000 messages a day! Of course she has the unlimited plan!

I’ve never imbedded from “revver” before, in case it doesn’t work here’s the YouTube link and here’s her original post about it. I heard her talking about it on MacBreak Weekly #53 with Leo LaPorte today (but I had no idea she was SO cute)…

Time Travel (not really)

So when I listen to these radio shows and podcasts on my iPod sometimes they’re a little old when I listen to them so the news is a little old too. Sometimes this is disorienting. I’ll hear someone mention the Pope is ill or one other news fact and it throws me off a little bit. When I think about getting the news late, it’s bothered me a little bit and I’m not sure why?

But I’ve been catching up on the TiVo and it’s the same thing when I see ads for the evening news and it’s old too (especially when it’s the weather for tomorrow). The odd thing is the TiVo delays don’t bother me so much (and I recall the same when I used to use my VCR).

So why do the iPod shows bother me more? One big difference is they get mentioned in the actual show (and not in an ad) Adam Curry will mention the Pope or Leo Laporte will mention it’s Easter. I guess maybe that reminds me I’m listening to something old…

The Screen Savers revisited

They messed with The Screen Savers again. They dumped Alex who I was just getting used to. Kevin stepped down to do geekier dark segments and they got another Kevin to replace him and Chi-Lan (whom I’ve seen on TSS before?). I guess they got rid of Dan (Foo) and Yoshi. And they dumped the fun opening too (at least so far)…

Podcasting

As they’d say on Jeopardy, “What is Podcasting?”. This is the greatest new thing people with iPods (or other mp3 players) use to get their own custom “radio shows”. People on-line have been doing different kinds of audio broadcasts for a while now. Places like ITconversations or people doing audio blogs (etc.) have been puting the audio out there but you would have to go get it and put it on your player. With programs like iPodder you can subscribe to these services and automatically check and pull them down and put them in your iTunes to be synced automatically the next type you plug in your iPod. Not all audio programs out there are subscribe-able yet. I’ll list some of the programs below that I like and you can subscribe or just listen. To subscribe you’ll need the RSS feed for that site so if you’re just looking you’ll want to check out the main site.
