The crazyness of Daylight Savings Time

I thought this video about the whys of Daylight Savings Time was entertaining. dst-logo.png For those of you from other places that do not practice this, it’s a time in the spring and the fall when we adjust our clocks back (or forward) an hour to pretend to get an extra hour of daylight (by taking away an hour of daylight) or vice-versa depending on your perspective (and the time of year).

I’m not for Daylight Savings TIme, I think it’s chaotic and not needed. Plus, if it really has some of the costs associated as illustrated in the video, it’s totally not worth it.

Doctor Who Regeneration – The Musical

Here’s an interesting musical. The Doctor regenerates and needs a new companion. A “must see” if you are a Doctor Who fan.

Here’s a direct link to the video.

This is starring Travis Slavin as Doctor Who and Elizabeth Oldak as his companion. I don’t know who they are but they deserve to be mentioned by name!

I love learning new things

I love learning. I also like talking (sharing) about things that (I hope) other people are interested in. Today xkcd talks about how many people each day learn something that everybody knows.

Ten Thousand

At their site, if you hover your mouse over the comic you always get an extra thought/punchline/jab. Today’s extra was “Saying 'what kind of an idiot doesn't know about the Yellowstone supervolcano' is so much more boring than telling someone about the Yellowstone supervolcano for the first time.”

xkcd is an excellent comic that talks about life, love, tech, math, science and more. Sometimes it’s just a few frames, sometimes it’s dozens. Sometimes it’s really tall and you have to scroll and once in a while it’s got a little bit of color in it. Sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s serious.

Today is the day

Trust no one!!

Have you seen Trevor / iTr3vor ?

So this kid Trevor plays songs on the computers at Apple stores and records videos of himself dancing to them and posts them to YouTube. iTr3vor.pngThey’re entertaining and he’s certainly not shy! I actually heard about him because someone else was complaining about the girls in the background making fun of him in a different video and that they’re the ones that look like idiots…

I’m wondering out if Trevor is really just marketing for “Active”, he sure wears a lot of shirts with their name on it. And as far as I know, the other shirts could be their brand too.

Watch on YouTube.

And if that’s not the case, why the heck isn’t someone paying him to wear their shirts?!?

Either way, it looks like he’s having fun and that’s all that matters. I’m not sure how old he is, but he did comments on being 5’1″.

Dude, where’s my flying car?!?

So all I could think when I read this is “Where’s my Jet Pack?”, which is what I thought I’d have by now. The cartoon is actually four frames, so you’ll have to click it for the last frame (and it’ll take you to the site that I got it from.

After clicking it, as with all xkcd cartoons, be sure to hover your mouse pointer over it for an extra punchline, while it’s not as funny, it does reference my initial needs.

Love Cartoons

Continuing the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I have a few “romantic” cartoons for you…

This is from indexed.
They do a chart, graph or Venn diagram every day.

You’ll need to click this one, it’s got a few more frames to it…

This is from Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.
Yes, it’s a little strange but not as cynical as this one.

Have a great one!!!

Poor things…

So I guess I shouldn’t complain about life too much. Things could certainly be worse.

Although, that’s not really true, one of the things I learned from volunteering at the shelter (and/or the crisis hotline) is that if you’ve got problems, it doesn’t matter if someone else has it worse, they’re still your problems (and you’ve got to work them out). Although, sometimes, diagrams like the above sometimes help to put them into perspective…Indexed Jessica Hagy

Jessica Nagy does these great diagrams on index cards on a great site called “Indexed” and she’s got a book or two (or three) out with similar types of content.
