The Screen Savers revisited

They messed with The Screen Savers again. They dumped Alex who I was just getting used to. Kevin stepped down to do geekier dark segments and they got another Kevin to replace him and Chi-Lan (whom I’ve seen on TSS before?). I guess they got rid of Dan (Foo) and Yoshi. And they dumped the fun opening too (at least so far)…

Cellular (The Movie)

Cellular (New Line Platinum Series) David R. EllisWow what an intense movie! I’m sure you’ve seen the previews: Kimmy gets kidnapped, the ‘nappers smash the phone in the attic, but she taps the wires together and finally dials a number and gets a guy on his cell phone and has to convince him it’s not a crank call. It’s non-stop excitement film and I’m not sure what else I can tell you without giving parts away. A few good one-liners. The first half was all suspense and the second was all action… William H. Macy, who is always great, is in it and you’ll recognize a bunch of other faces.

Drugs are my friends

So I signed up for getting some of my prescriptions by mail. I just got my first shipment. Here’s my pros & cons…

Pro: It’s only $2 for a 90 day supply (normally $15). That’s only 66 cents a month instead of $5 dollars. They’ve got pharmacists available 24 hours a day (although I waited 10-15 minutes today).

Cons: If I wait until the last minute it’ll take 4 days to get more. If I get something different (wrong) I get a 3 month supply; if I had been at the store and looked at it I could have had them swap it or something.

Podcasting

As they’d say on Jeopardy, “What is Podcasting?”. This is the greatest new thing people with iPods (or other mp3 players) use to get their own custom “radio shows”. People on-line have been doing different kinds of audio broadcasts for a while now. Places like ITconversations or people doing audio blogs (etc.) have been puting the audio out there but you would have to go get it and put it on your player. With programs like iPodder you can subscribe to these services and automatically check and pull them down and put them in your iTunes to be synced automatically the next type you plug in your iPod. Not all audio programs out there are subscribe-able yet. I’ll list some of the programs below that I like and you can subscribe or just listen. To subscribe you’ll need the RSS feed for that site so if you’re just looking you’ll want to check out the main site.

Superman

Speaking of Nicolas Cage who was once rumored to play the part of Superman in a new movie, I read a new rumour today. It was mentioned that Jason Behr, from Roswell the Series (and who was just in The Grudge which I didn’t know he was in) with Sarah Michelle Gellar, may be slated to play Superman and his alter-ego in the next movie installment. (Interview magazine, November 2004, page 38). I like Jason, but I’m not sure how I feel about that…

National Treasure

NationaltreasureSo on a whim I went to see National Treasure tonight. It had the potential to be not so good, so I was a little ambivalent about it.

It was excellent! DaVinci Code meets Indiana Jones with a little Jerry Bruckheimer thrown in for some chase scenes. His sidekick (Justin Bartha) was fun and Diane Kruger was great (and while I thought she was familiar she’s relatively new to the US movie scene).

Hospitals and Holidays…

So since I’ve moved back to the Detroit area I don’t don’t see some of my family as much. Here’s why: I’m now about 30-35 minutes away from most of them compared to 90 minutes. That might not make sense since I’m closer to them, but when I was 90 minutes away (East Lansing area) I came and spent the day or maybe the day and part of the next day and while I was there I’d visit others, heck if it was nice I’d rollerblade or bicycle around town and visit others. Now I’ll just head in, have dinner (or do whatever the mission is) and head home; voila 3 hours later and I’m home and visited for 2 hours where before that was just the the travel time.
