What is Kodachrome?

So they were talking about the last roll of Kodachrome being developed last week. But what is Kodachrome? Kodachrome is non-negative film; that is the colors are correct, as in: slides and film.

I shot a lot of slides on a trip to Alaska a (long) while back, I never really got into slides though. I keep meaning to send to send my slides in to get them scanned, I think I have some great ones, but I digress…

On 14 July 2010 it was announced that the last produced roll of Kodachrome was developed by Dwayne’s for photographer Steve McCurry on assignment for National Geographic. Kodachrome_box-from-wikipedia.JPGI remember hearing about this a few months ago, this is that the last roll manufactured was developed (there were still earlier manufactured rolls that weren’t developed).

On 30 December 2010, Dwaynes Photo in Parsons, Kansas, officially ended their Kodachrome processing, effectively ending Kodachromes 75-year long career. The last roll developed was from the owners of the photo business.

Keep in mind, Kodak stopped making the film in June of 2009, but I think they still made the developing chemicals for a while longer. And while they were still developing in December of 2010, the last rolls made had a November 2010 expiration date.

Some of the info (and the photo) is from the Kodachrome entry in Wikipedia.

Strange Searches

So if you haven’t noticed it yet I’ve got a search results referrer page set up (in the About section) so you can see many (but not necessarily all) of the search criteria people typed into google/yahoo/etc. and got a link to one of my pages and click on it. Of course they are clickable so you can then see the same results and click on me (or somewhere else) and once I list the top ten you want to go and click on them…

Common searches (and even stranger that they clicked on me):

  • tempur-pedic (or tempurpedic or even temperpedic) – this is the type of mattress I bought for my bed.
  • boogers immune (or other variations)- this is a funny post be sure to search for it.
  • senior quotes – I listed a quote they did at graduation last year.
  • national geographic theme song – I mentioned this in a meme or two.
  • lots of joan of arcadia references – THE best show on TV.
  • sex flash – another meme question
  • lots to do with duct tape prom outfits – another interesting post.
  • oleana david mamet – lots of people looking for information on David Mamet’s play Oleana (or movie)
  • Keep On Singin’ My Song… (Part Two) – The Tuesday Iffers

If the theme song you picked were to play, in full, every time you entered a room would you still pick the same song? If not, what would you pick? Something different… (Maybe Darth Vader’s theme?) Probably a few bars from the National Geographic theme song! It’s upbeat and it’ll make everyone crazy wondering where they heard it before.

    From The Tuesday Iffers.

    Kids and Christmas!

It’s so much fun to watch kids open presents for the holidays! They get so excited, why do we (adults) make it so hard for them by making them wait? It’s really great, the holidays are so much better with the kids running around. All the kids were extra good this year with hugs and thank you’s and such, that makes it all worth it…

And you never know what present is going to be the hit. Some 3D National Geographic ViewMaster-type toy made the rounds to all the kids and adults. So if you’re still shopping keep that in mind. :)
