Costa Rica! My most often traveled vacation spot. I usually stick along the (north) Pacific coast, usually in Montezuma.

Four For Friday – July 1, 2005

Q1: If a credentialed security guard approached you after you made a purchase in a mall department store, and asked or demanded to see what was inside of your backpack, shoulder bag, or some other bag that was large enough to contain stolen items, what would you? Would you comply, no questions asked, or would you automatically say no because you know that you didn’t do anything wrong?
Not a chance. (Not unless she’s going to frisk me?) There’s no way I’d let them look, they’re wrong and I’m right! If they want to push it then I figure I’m getting a $10,000 gift card out of the deal (since they won’t find anything). Since my common stores are book stores, Target or Best Buy, it’ll be a lot of fun stuff… At some stores sometimes they do look at my bag (everyone’s bag) of what I just purchased and I’ve been tempted to just walk by, but I figure they’re really testing the cashier (and that I’m not in cahoots with them).

Does Freedom=Happiness?

So I don’t want to complain too much and this post has mutated into something way different that what I started with. But I’m the devil’s advocate and every time I sung a praise for today and the country I had a “but” pop up. So read on if you want some rambling related to safety, happiness, taking things for granted and the US. Maybe I’m just bitter that it rained and there weren’t any fireworks tonight…

So I live in the United States of America. We’ve really got it made here (we really do), I can’t complain too much (but I’m going to whine a little). We’ve got so many freedoms everyone takes it for granted. We have so many freedoms we give the benefit of the doubt to the criminals and while many fall through the cracks it’s still a pretty safe place to be.

I’m extra happy today because I think this is the one of the few holidays since the fall of 2001 where we haven’t been on high alert or if we are everyone is taking it for granted and it is “old news”. I think we take a lot for granted these days and it’s not good. If we take it for granted how can it make us happy?

Saturday Six – 61

6. You are given the gift of an original oil painting by any famous artist.  What painting would you choose and why?
Easy. The Kiss by Gustav Klimt
5. Last week, the Reader’s Choice question asked you to identify your favorite movie line.  Later this month, the American Film Institute will list the 100 Greatest Movie Lines of all time.  Which one do you expect to win?
“Frankly Scarlett, I don’t give a damn”
4. You have the ability to snap your fingers and be instantly transported to one of three places whenever you wish to go there.  Which three places would you select as your destinations?
Costa Rica (probably Jaco, since I like the ocean there), London, England (I always enjoy England) and Berkley, Michigan (most of my extended family lives there) and work (I hate wasting time driving to and from work). Yes I picked four. I’m assuming you can teleport back to your starting point which would be home. If I had this power I’d probably move to one of the locations (probably Costa Rica) and make that home so I’d only need the three other destinations.

Vacation – Chick Chat

1. Where Do You Visit The Most On Vacation?:
Probably Florida, the Miami (pardon me, the South Beach area) and Ft. Lauderdale area. Haven’t been there in a while but it’s got sun and good roller blading. I’ve probably been to Florida the most especially counting other locations. I’ve been to Washington D.C. a lot but mostly for work. I’ve been to Chicago and Toronto more than a few times but those are usually quick trips and don’t require much planning. I’ll make Florida be my final answer!
2. What’s Your Idea Of A Dream Vacation?:

Oceans – Sunday Brunch

1) Have you ever swam in the ocean? If so, which ones?
Atlantic (from both sides, although technically I might have been in the english channel?) and Pacific at varying degrees of latitude.
2) Have you ever been snorkeling or scuba diving?
Never, although I think I’d like to learn.
3) Do you like traveling by boat and have you ever?
Yes. I did a small cruise up the coast of Alaska. I think I might like one warmer though…
4) Do you believe that Atlantis existed?
I’d like to think so, to believe other wise seems as if it would put some restraints on the imagination.
5) If you could live on the coast of any of the oceans, which ocean and which coast?
Pacific Ocean, west coast, south probably near Costa Rica. Although if someone was handing out villas I could probably deal with anywhere.

From Sunday Brunch.

At this very moment… – Tuesday Twosome

1. Are you craving anything and if so, what?
I’m craving the attention of a new romantic relationship….
2. What is the weather outside, and do you wish it would change?
Cold and snowy. Yes I wish it were sunny (and 90 degrees)
3. What two websites do you think you will go to next after you are finished here?
Probably some podcasting sites; I haven’t checked what was new lately.
4. Do you wish you were somewhere else and if so, where?
Somewhere warm. Costa Rica has been on my mind lately.
5. Do you wish you were someone else, and if so, who?
Someone else… Unless it’s someone who just won the lotto I really don’t have anyone to be anyone else.

From the Tuesday Twosome.

Distance – Friday Q

FQ1: What’s the furthest North you’ve been on this world? What were you doing there?
Alaska, I went there on vacation when I was 15 (with a bunch of people I didn’t know).
FQ: What’s the furthest South you’ve been on this world? What were you doing there?
Costa Rica, I was there on vacation twice and I’m ready to go back again…
FQ3: Where were you born, and what’s the furthest you’ve been from that spot?
I was born in Michigan and the farthest away I’ve every been was probably Prague on vacation and it’ll probably be my summer trip this year.
FQ AWAY: Name a blog you read that’s the most distant from you… whether it be emotionally, culturally, religiously, or by physical location.
I’d swear that I read one in New Zeland but I can’t figure out which one it is.

From the Friday Q.

Gifted – FridayQ

FQ1: What’s an impressive gift ($50 US or less) on your wish list?
Probably the Star Wars Trilogy DVD (widescreen) set.
FQ2: What’s an expensive gift ($500 US or less) on your wish list?
I don’t think I have anything on my list that’s greater than $50 and less than $500. I’d love a plane ticket to somewhere warm. Oh, wait! I want an Alpine car stereo with the iPod adaptor!!! (Have I told you how much I like my iPod?!?)
FQ3: What’s an extravagant gift ($5000 US or less) on your wish list?
I’ve got a G5 iMac listed, but if I can go up to $5k I want the latest and greatest G5 desktop (with lots of disk space and memory) with a nice DUAL display card.
FQ Greed: Money is no object! What’s the most outrageous gift money can buy on your dream list?
A nice place on the west coast of Costa Rica. With high speed internet hookups and satellite TV and other “necessities”. Just to clarify, when I say west coast, I mean on the Ocean.

I did actually look at my Amazon wishlist to see what there is that I “need”…
