It’s dropped a whole dollar!

So in the last 10 weeks gas has dropped a dollar! At least it has in the Detroit, Michigan area. Probably two out of three stations are $1.99 or less for a gallon of gasoline. It’s just crazy to think that it was over $3.00 not that long ago.

Not much of a deep thought but it keeps hitting me every time I pass a gas station and see how low it’s gone.

McRib No More…

McribtourSo there is a site protesting the use of boneless pigs for fast food (bonelesspigs.org). It’s a marketing thingy for McDonald’s who it looks like its canceling the McRib sandwich and marketing it as a farewell tour (and we know how those go, I think I saw the Rolling Stones farewell (or was it a reunion tour in ’93). This is a problem as it is my personal favorite and it doesn’t look like the tour is in my neighborhood. If anyone hears that they are coming to Michigan please let me know (Toledo is close enough and/or it’s an excuse to go to Chicago).

Found at the Fire Ant Gazette.

$2.08

So we drove by the $2.08 gas station today several times, but it just wasn’t worth the wait to save a few pennies on gasoline. (If you’re near Dearborn, MI it’s the Sunoco on Greenfield between Ford and Michigan.)

Miles and Miles

Michigan trip october 2005So I drove 695.9 miles round trip for my travels up north. I’m a really slow traveler though, I stop every so often to shop/look/snack. The 280 mile trip up there took me about 350 miles and 28 hours to do it. Like I said I really like to take my time. You can see on the map (click to enlarge) my zig-zaggedy path (in red on the map). I went Dearborn to Sterling Heights (stopped to say HI to my Mom at work), to Troy (the Apple Store at the Somerset Collection), to Birch Run (the outlet mall) to a hotel near Cadilliac, then to Frankfort (furt?) to bicycle and shop at Gwen Frostic’s then up to Leeland and visit at Jim & Karen’s in Lake Leelanau for a few days. On the way back I went to Traverse City to bike and eat lunch, Mt. Pleasant to have dinner with Dawn and April, East Lansing for Cookie Dough Ice Cream and then back home. Lot’s of other little stops to shop and eat and we ran around a little while I was up there (that might be another post or two).

45th Parallel

45thparagreen.thumb.jpgSo I’m on vacation and I passed this sign yesterday. I thought it was interesting enough to snap the photo.

But then today where we stopped at a park to eat lunch I saw this one on a rock which I thought was even cooler! But you know how I am with words on rocks….

Gas Prices

So I just passed about twenty gasoline stations from Dearborn to Wyandotte and every single one (except one) was $2.99. That’s every station from Michigan and Schaefer/Coolidge to Jefferson/Biddle and Eureka. That’s pretty good from the stories I’m hearing out there. Oh and the one the wasn’t $2.99, it was $2.92! (it was at Biddle and Northline if you’re from around here). I also noticed places like http://www.detroitgasprices.com/ have been keeping their information up-to-date with these higher prices…

10 years ago – I lived in Haslett (east of East Lansing), I still worked at the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. I really miss both, I loved the job (I left because my boss left and I went to work for him at another job) and I really miss the Lansing area. I definitely miss the (lack of) traffic and (lack of) construction that we have in the Detroit area. I miss my little apartment too, I was right next door to a 24 hour Quality Dairy (w/laundramat) so I could get ice cream, donuts, milk, do laundry, get lottery tickets and use an ATM any time of the day or night. And I was right by Lake Lansing, I could put in all my laundry (not just one load) and go sit at the park by they lake or rollerblade around the lake… Did I say I missed living there?!?
5 years ago – I’m thinking I was sick. I only remember because it was the year I bought my condo (in October) and I remember being so very sick that September with (I don’t even remember exactly) some kind of lung infection. I had moved back to the Detroit area the year before and I don’t remember much else.
