99 Cents iTunes album

Almost free: From the iTunes music store an 8 song album from UME. That’s less than 12.5 cents a song!

DOESN’T APPEAR TO BE AVAILABLE ANYMORE.

Free Itunes Album

Here’s another free 16 song album from the Apple Music Store. You must have iTunes installed (the link should launch iTunes and show the free album I know some computers aren’t doing this but if you have iTunes it should, I’ve seen it work on Windows and Mac). A few good songs on it, I had purchased the Toby Lightman on it already.

Here’s the other 13 song album that I posted last month (again).

Best way to be a podcast listener!

So I know I’ve mentioned podcasting before. Listening to podcasts has become a little bit of an obsession for me. The trick is to get the audio files from the Internet and onto your iPod (or other music player). For that you need a podcasting client. The one I use is called iPodderX and it runs on Macintosh OS X. This is probably one of the better clients I’ve seen and it just added the feature I wanted which now makes it the best client I’ve seen.

IpodderxWhat you do with a client is tell it what feeds (shows) you want to listen to and it gets them for you. It’ll check every few hours pulling down new files for you and put them into a directory and/or itunes for you. iPodderX does all this and more…

Free Music (13 iTunes Tracks)

Free iTunes Sampler Album. Courtesy of The Neurotic Fishbowl and the iPod Lounge. Actually, it’s probably really courtesy of the iTunes store and the artists…

Music at 20,000 feet

So I’m on my way back to Detroit. I downloaded a bunch of blogs to read on the plane and I’m also listening to my iPod. Right now I’m listening to Toby Lightman which I purchased from the iTunes store a ways back. I also heard Stumblin’ by Powderfinger, Sway by The Perishers and lots of stuff (Live on 8/27/04) from Claudia Jane – who appears to have recently given up blogging :(

Naming Conventions – A Plea to Podcasters

Everyone – I love your shows, when I can find them on my music player. The is a request for some naming consistency in your files and the Song Name*. You may have the show name in the Artist or Album, but sometimes if listing by song name all I see is a bunch of numbers with tracks mixed with others tracks. I have the iPod Photo which has more information (a few more lines and a few more characters) in the display, I can’t imagine what others are seeing (or not seeing).

When the file name or song title starts with a number it just sorts with all the others with the same numbers. Then we can’t ever find anything. Starting by month is confusing too, for example: my November “ESC Radio” just mixes in with my November “Gilmore Gang”.

When this is really an issue is when I’m trying to show someone else “something cool” but end up not finding it. They aren’t very impress or encouraged to buy anything (or buy in to podcasting) at that time. I want more people to be geeked and excited about this!!! I’m certain you feel the same.

Speaking of PodCasting

So in the January 2005 issue of MacAddict (just came in the mail) there is a two page article about podcasting and some links and info on how to listen in. Remember you don’t need an iPod you can just listen to them on your computer or you can just have the podcasting software deliver it to (free) iTunes for Mac or Windows.

A big part of the article is a sidebar on “Podcast Pioneer Adam Curry”. I was just listening to Adam on my way home, he’s finally settled in his new home in the UK and I think this (yesterday) was his first show from the new location. He does his show (the Daily Source Code) like it’s live, so you get all the fun stuff when he spills his tea allover his desk and is bitching about the mess. He’s hysterical, be sure to check his show out…

Podcasting

As they’d say on Jeopardy, “What is Podcasting?”. This is the greatest new thing people with iPods (or other mp3 players) use to get their own custom “radio shows”. People on-line have been doing different kinds of audio broadcasts for a while now. Places like ITconversations or people doing audio blogs (etc.) have been puting the audio out there but you would have to go get it and put it on your player. With programs like iPodder you can subscribe to these services and automatically check and pull them down and put them in your iTunes to be synced automatically the next type you plug in your iPod. Not all audio programs out there are subscribe-able yet. I’ll list some of the programs below that I like and you can subscribe or just listen. To subscribe you’ll need the RSS feed for that site so if you’re just looking you’ll want to check out the main site.
