Speaking of PodCasting

So in the January 2005 issue of MacAddict (just came in the mail) there is a two page article about podcasting and some links and info on how to listen in. Remember you don’t need an iPod you can just listen to them on your computer or you can just have the podcasting software deliver it to (free) iTunes for Mac or Windows.

A big part of the article is a sidebar on “Podcast Pioneer Adam Curry”. I was just listening to Adam on my way home, he’s finally settled in his new home in the UK and I think this (yesterday) was his first show from the new location. He does his show (the Daily Source Code) like it’s live, so you get all the fun stuff when he spills his tea allover his desk and is bitching about the mess. He’s hysterical, be sure to check his show out…

Podcasting

As they’d say on Jeopardy, “What is Podcasting?”. This is the greatest new thing people with iPods (or other mp3 players) use to get their own custom “radio shows”. People on-line have been doing different kinds of audio broadcasts for a while now. Places like ITconversations or people doing audio blogs (etc.) have been puting the audio out there but you would have to go get it and put it on your player. With programs like iPodder you can subscribe to these services and automatically check and pull them down and put them in your iTunes to be synced automatically the next type you plug in your iPod. Not all audio programs out there are subscribe-able yet. I’ll list some of the programs below that I like and you can subscribe or just listen. To subscribe you’ll need the RSS feed for that site so if you’re just looking you’ll want to check out the main site.

Another U2 First

112304_CompleteU2The Complete U2 is only available from the Apple iTunes store. It includes every album they’ve ever done, 40 unreleased tracks and a digital booklet. As far as I can tell it’s 446 songs for only $149.99 (you get $50 off if you bought the U2 iPod).

Now while that’s only 35 cents a song, you have to consider anyone who wants to buy it probably owns a good chunk of the albums already so it’s really costing more than that to get the new songs… If you were U2-geeky enough to get the U2 iPod an extra $100 is probably a no brainer…

Busy Busy…

So it’s been a little busy lately. But too busy for blogging…? Here’s a quick update.

  • rearranging my living room some, trying to make some more room for watching the “tube”.
  • above rearranging should help with room for holiday decorating (i.e. tree).
  • if it actually snows this this week that’ll motivate with the tree.
  • finished three (yes 3) of the books I’ve been concurrently reading (Moneyball, A shortcut Through Time and _____). I’ll do some reviews later (yeah, right).
  • I found my misplaced copy of Cooking To Hook Up, which I should read. Coincidentally, the week after Thanksgiving has traditionally been a good dating week for me, so I should probably start studying… Don’t ask me why I remember this but I’ve noticed it more than once.
  • I got another 2,500 songs loaded up on my iPod. The hard part is now figuring out what parts of my collection is not on there.
  • Saw the Incredibles, very fun. I will review this soon…
  • iPod (Photo) Review

So this thing is great. If you’re not sure what this thing is I’m talking about my new iPod Photo 60GB music/photo player (15,000 photos or 25,000 photos). I knew I’d like it, I’ve missed my MP3 player for the car (I had a 20 GB in the trunk model). I’ve got several thousand songs on this thing and I’m really liking podCasting (downloading radioshows and talk shows, some Internet only) to listen to when I want to.

I hate “ear buds” and I’m actually starting to like these (but I keep getting them all tangled up). It seems that other non-ear bud people seem to like them too.

I’ve barely looked at the photo options so far but it seems like a nice bonus. The photos scroll through SO fast it’s not even funny. It’s like something from a sci-fi show where the show the digital photo album and scroll through the photos at 200 miles per hour. Apple said they didn’t include video, but it’s fast enough for that but they just didn’t sync the audio to it. Maybe someone will patch it for that…

The key thing is I love it and I know there are still a lot of capabilities that I haven’t even come close to tapping into yet.

I’ll chat more about the other features later (and what is podcasting).

Viagra, Penises, Spam, iPods and Love

It’s a little annoying that when comments get spammed because I have the plugin (scode captcha) that asks you the the little question before you post. I can’t imagine they just put in the code for the dozen spam messages, so maybe they got past it somewhow. I’ll take some tips on this if you have them (MT 2.661).captcha code

The odd thing is that it’s just a message full of URLs and the word penis and viagra (etc.) all over it. I’d probably not notice it as quick if they only did one (instead of a dozen). But what I don’t get is why doesn’t the message say something more like, “It’s great the you got a new iPod Photo, but you should see what I bought and I’m sure it made my sex life better than your new iPod did.” I’m sure they’d get a few more takers to click on it…

So why would you want a portable XM radio that’s $350 dollars (and $10 a month) that you need to be able to connect to the satellite with when you could buy an iPod (or something similar, I suppose) put whatever you have on it and play what you want when you want it?? For $50 less you can carry 5,000 songs or $50 more you could carry 10,000!
