Funerals

So I came home and took a nap after all my errands (I feel great now). Since then I’ve watched a bit of TV and now I’m thinking of funerals. This wasn’t weird dreams, it was what was on the TV show (didn’t you hear, someone was going to die on Smallville).

I still remember being freaked out at my first funeral. Here’s why:

Gift Certificates

So I know you’re thinking the winter holidays when I say gift certificates but really that’s not it. I’m thinking of my birthday which was ten weeks ago and that I finally just ended up spending the last of my gift certificates. And yes, I know that was ten weeks ago, but I didn’t want to waste them.

Yesterday I spend the last few at Best Buy for memory for my computers. After moving some around between a few I ended up doubling the memory in the one and increasing the other by 50%. I thought it was going to work out a little better than that (I thought the one had more memory slots) but you can still tell the difference on both of them.

Fall TV Lineup 2005

FYI – Here are MY FALL 2006 descriptions (I see the search engines keep picking up this older page and it’s 2006 now…).

Here’s a grid for the Fall 2005 TV lineup: We’ve got Eastern/Pacific and Central.

Here’s my issues (because I know you care) with the lineup:

  • Two and a Half Men is still on at the same time as Las Vegas.
  • Commander-in-Chief is on the same time as Sex, Lies, & Secrets (and Supernatural and Bones, but I’m not so sure about these).
  • Veronica Mars is on the same time as Lost.
  • Smallville is on the same time as Alias (and Joey, although I can live without).

There is a lot on there that I don’t know what they are so that may be a few more issues for me. I may have to learn how to set up BitTorrent to download my shows automatically if they are going to have so many conflicts….

Stolen from Melissa.

Finally (Smallville)

So if you don’t watch Smallville you probably don’t care and if you haven’t watched last night’s episode you probably don’t want to read this. So it’s been bugging me that Lana Lang and Clark Kent haven’t been interacting much (if at all) and it’s been annoying that if they aren’t going to interact then get her off the show.

Product Placement on Television

So there has been complaints of product placement in television shows. It came up a few days ago in a meme question and I’ve seen it mentioned somewhere else since then plus I’ve been thinking about it a bit since Friday. I’m not sure what the problem is? We see product placement in sports all the time, in the background, on the uniforms, sponsorships of the show and who knows what else. I’m not sure what it matters when the hosts are drinking Coca-Cola on American Idol or someone on a fiction show is eating some brand name candy. Someone is going to start drinking Coke because Paula drank it on TV? What about when someone famous is drinking it on an ad? I’m thinking I’m not going to be any more motivated to buy Red Zone deodorant just because I saw Clark Kent with some in his locker on Smallville a few weeks ago. Although the ad stuck in my head (so I guess it worked on some level), but that’s just because they paused on it a bit too long the few times they showed it (it was on a banner at the Smallville High football game too).

Smallville – 2004 season

So in someways I like the new season, but in others… It’s back to feeling like the first season, too many kryptonite monsters (i.e. Buffy the Kryptonite infected monster slayer). I was just starting to like Lois and now she seems to be off the show, I thought I saw her in some WB cast promos so I thought she’d be around a little longer.

The show definitely has more sex appeal. And uptight Clark just seems to be getting hit on/made out with/getting caught with too many women. While everyone else is lying to someone else about something. And it bugs me when Lana lies to Clark, they’ve got them set up as the destined lovers… (Even though we know he marries a different LL)

So to wrap it all up it’s kinda Buffy meets Smallville 90210. If you can handle it and keep track of the characters go for it!

But you have to love the slo-mo “bullet-time” effects when Clark rushes into action.

Smallville

After the great summer finale to SG-1 we got a great season premier for Smallville. Their premiers are generally odd in that it’s all of a sudden there months later. Lots of “stuff” happening: everyone is getting their memory back, coming out of their coma, returning from Kryptonian stasis and Lana grew up over the summer…

And two (yes two!) Lois Lanes. How’s that, you ask? Well we have the actress (Erica Durance) who plays new Lois, plus we had a cameo by Margot Kidder who played Lois in the 70/80’s superman movies. Plus they even gave me a little cliff hanger for next week.

This could be a good season… More (real) spoilers below.

Beginnings, Middles and Ends – The Thursday Threesome

Onesome- Beginnings: Are there any television shows out there that you’ve watched regularly from the very beginning?
Joan of Arcadia, Smallville, Sports Night, Friends, Alias, Strange Luck, Roswell, VR5 and probably a few other sci-fi shows that didn’t last wlong.
Twosome- Middles: What about shows that you came into in the middle of the season but immediately grabbed your attention and turned you into a die-hard fan?
Actualy Friends was a middle of the season and but I was hooked. Mad About You hooked me for a while. I’m sure there is more
Threesome- And Ends: Recently, a number of big name shows have ended, Friends, Fraiser, The Drew Carey Show, and the cult hit, Angel. Did you watch any of the big finales? Have you ever been really sad to see a show go?
I was sad to see Sports Night and Roswell go. Every thing else was kinda short, this year I’ve lost a few: The Handler, Wonderfalls, I’m with Her, Century City and I’m sure there are a few more but I’d have to check my TiVo.
