Digital VCR at 20,000 feet

I’m not sure what kind of playback unit this is, probably digital, but it doesn’t look like it. The screen was only about 4 or 5 inches diagonal and had some kind of touchscreen interface. It looked like it was ancient and belonged in a rack in an old TV studio.

Now while I’m picking on it, I do realize this was probably pretty cool technology when it came out. But these days the could probably just be using a $200 iPod touch for it. That’s probably 15 pounds they’re not flying around for hundreds of thousands of miles a year (a month?). And while they’re at it, ditch these old TV monitors (that weigh a ton) and put in some cheap LCD screens that barely weigh anything…

Watch in HD

The audio isn’t that great, I’m kinda hoarse and the plan is kinda noisy.

Please note, I shot this with my iPhone on the plane, uploaded it to YouTube (via GoGo) and typed this text and posted it while sitting on a plane. That is so cool (IMHO).

Montezuma Waterfall in Costa Rica

Here’s a very short movie of the Waterfall in Montezuma! Click for the higher quality Montezuma Waterfall version. But people always have problems with the movie files from my Dimage XT camera for some reason so here’s an YouTube version too…

I don’t have much more to say (other than it was awesome) since I talked about it last week when I was there…

Is it “an YouTube”?

Searches for Movie Characters

So I’ve gotten a few searches here lately for “favorite movie characters” so I went and checked out the old post. Now I think it’s time to watch a few f those old movies again:

  • Stealing Beauty with Liv Tyler
  • Leon The Professional with Natalie Portman + Jean Reno.

Yes, I realize they are completely different types of movies. But those happen to be a few from that list that I own…

  • Hancock mini-review

So I just saw Hancock and I really enjoyed it. A lot of laugh out loud moments. An excellent part for Will Smith. If you think this is yor type of movie than I bet you’ll enjoy it.

But the movie was different than I expected, I’m not sure if “twist” is the right word but it was something completely not expected. So go see it quickly, before you hear about it or before they change the TV trailers to reveal it.

The more interesting stuff is in the twist, so that’s all I’ve got to say…

    Transformers – The Movie

So I was never a huge Transformers fan. I never understood the reasoning/idea of the robots Transforming into cars (please don’t try to explain it to me) as a great story-line even for the comics. But the effects and the Michael Bay action couldn’t keep me away.

THe effects were awesome, lots of action, lots of destruction and a bit of campy humor. I was totally into the movie and the chase scenes and the explosions. It did take more than a few minutes to set the movie up, but since the movie was two hours and twenty minutes I really won’t complain about that. My biggest complaint is to ditch the little robot that transforms into the tape deck, but they probably needed something that wouldn’t totally slaughter the humans…

If it interests you, go see it, you’ll love it. My piece of trivia for this movie: the voice of Optimus Prime is the same guy who did the voice for the cartoons.

I still don’t get the idea of the robot/car transformations, but I certainly want my car to be able to do it!

    Invasion Iowa

In case you weren’t sure Riverside, Iowa (pop. 928) is the future birthplace of James T. Kirk (yes, that’s really their claim to fame). So it’s not so strange when William Shatner comes to town to film a science fiction movie. Of course he needs some townspeople to play parts. THe eccentric William Shatner brought his (no such a) body double, his “shats” (red, green or yellow berets) that he’s about to market, his spiritual advisor and a horrible script for Invasion Iowa. The most important part is — he’s not really making a movie, it’s a reality/hoax show. I’ve startied watching the first episode, it’s kind of fun so far. It’s on SpikeTV all this week.

    Movie Preview – The Interpreter

I saw two movie previews today; actually I saw a few more but I’m only going to mention two.

The Interpreter preview which I’ve seen about a gazillion times but it’s never come out yet. Where Nicole Kidman plays an interpreter at the UN and hears a murder plot (stars Sean Penn). Is this movie actually ever going to come out?

    Burn It Baby!

It’s time for the Summer Edition of Burn It! Do you like music? Do you like movies? How about music from movies? If you answered yes to all of the above, sign up to make a mix CD of music (scores and or soundtracks) from movies*. You send out four and you get four from different people from all over (the US or Canada).
