Interesting Recent Sites

Have you seen my new sidebar on blog start page? “Interesting Recent Sites” If I’m on a site and I think it’s interest I hit a button* and it moves it up to the server. It just keeps the last dozen or so sites.

* How – AppleScript to get the URL and the tile (or a text clipping from the page) and does a tail for the end of the list and FTPs it up to my site and then a PHP include from the site grabs the file and sticks it in the sidebar box! After a few more revisions I’ll post the info up for the geekier of you. If interested in the info when I get it together, leave a comment for this message…

Trilogies – Theater Thursday

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King has officially hit the stores this week (I bought the first copy at my local Borders yesterday). Trilogies have been popular in the movies for years. This week we look at questions based on some famous cinematic triumvarites:

1) The Back to the Future Trilogy sent Marty McFly 30 years into the future, 30 years into the past (twice!) and 100 years into the past. Which of these time periods would you like to visit in your 1.21 gigawatt-powered DeLorean, and why?
Hmmm… I couldn’t decide plus or minus 30… But I didn’t really like the future there. The past is more of a certainty and other than the threat of world war (which I would know wouldn’t happen) seemed to be a pretty good time.
2) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was, of course, based on a famous trio of novels by JRR Tolkien. What sci-fi/fantasy/genre novels or series would you like to see turned into a Peter-Jackson-directed/George-Lucas-written/Steven-Speilberg-produced trilogy?
A few. Narnia, The Book of Three (which someone did as a cartoon called the Black Cauldren (book 2)), a good alien invader (invaders on long stilts) one I read as a kid (I’ll think on the title), To Your Scattered Bodies Go (that might make a better series). But my number one choice would be The Wizardry Series (on book seven) by Diane Duane, book one was So You Want To Be A Wizard?. Two kids becoming wizards, discovering the world is a live, great power always at a cost and some physics behind the magic (a little more to it than just casting spells at random that sometimes work and other times do).
3) Next summer, there will be two complete Star Wars trilogies in the history books. What’s your strangest or most interesting Star Wars experience?
We used to cut class to see the movies on opening day. What a bunch of wacky people that come out of the woodwork. I just remember being in the first row for one of them (the 2nd one, I mean the 5th one) and having the great view and all the other geeked out fans that were there… It was a blast.
Bonus) While the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones movies are currently only trilogies, plans are in the works for a fourth movie in both series. What trilogy might’ve been better served with a fourth movie? Which trilogy would’ve been better if they had left it at only one movie?
They could just delete that second Indiana Jones movie… They should have stopped with Jurassic Park already. They keep having rumors of another Superman movie, I’d like that. Another Batman movie (with Michael Keaton would be great too).

Learning to Ride – The Thursday Threesome

Onesome: Learning– Hey, what would you like to learn how to do this Summer? Learn to ride a motorcycle (like Sarah)? Learn PHP? Learn how to chill out and vegetate properly (lessons available )?
PHP! Just learning so that’s a good mission. If only the laptop had a brighter screen so I could use it better outside. I’d like to learn how to rollerblade backwards! I’ve never be able to do that (on purpose).
Twosome: to– Too? Two? Okay, two things you are positively not going to learn how to do! Ever!
Splunking (big fear of getting trapped in a cave/suffocating). Hunting for sport.
Threesome: Ride– Speaking of motorcycles: Do you ride? Did you ever ride? …or do you just enjoy them? …or maybe, “No way!”?
I used to. I had a bike as a kid and it was street legal so when I turned sixteen it was the only two wheels I had to ride. It’s fun but I’m a packrat and a bike doesn’t work for me (my convertible on the other hand…)

The Moooonnn…

So I really like the way the background it working out! The moon changing with the phases is pretty nifty. It wasn’t moving very fast at first, as a matter of fact it didn’t match some other moon icons so I think something choked at the US Naval Observatory where I get it from, it seems like it’s sped up the last 24 hours. It wasn’t previously matching some other moon viewers.

Wednesday Whatevers 5/26

1. Should somebody be your enemy if they are your parents’ enemy? Why?
Not a chance! Why? Because they aren’t mine. I’m assuming we’re talking about the mean neighbors down the street and not some people (or aliens) that are hunting them down…
2. Why do you answer memes?
Because I’m a meme-a-holic. I’m actually looking for a 12 step program. I love them. They give me something to talk about without me having to come up with a subject. It’s lets me talk/share without having to complain about stuff that people generally complain about.
3. Do you use net slang or type correctly?
No. I’m not even sure I understand the question (net slang OR net type?). Besides using Google as a verb I’m not sure I use too much.

HomeWork: Week 17

Do you have a codified housework schedule, or do you fly by the seat of your pants? If you have a schedule, how is it organized? Room by room? Chore by chore? Do members of your household rotate chores on a regular basis?Cleaning, always picking up the day before the cleaning lady comes by (so she can get around). Lately I’ve been behind with grocery shopping. I’m usually not behind with laundry. It’s usually more messy than dirty…

Keep On Singin’ My Song… (Part One) – The Tuesday Iffers

If you had a theme song, what song would you pick? I’m thinking “One Week” by “Barenaked Ladies”. I’ll have to examine the lyrics more before I commit though…

3. Which sitcom did you used to like, but now it just seems too hokey?
