I’ve generally had pretty great health insurance. But I’ve been bothered that so many people have no insurance. This is a simplification of the benefits of socialized health ‘insurance’.
Here’s the direct link to it YouTube.
Here’s the thing: I think that some kind of socialized health will probably personally affect me negatively. I think that companies that offer great insurance will cut back a bit and it’ll cost me more out of pocket either at work or in my taxes (even if they don’t cut back, it’ll cost me in my taxes). But for more people to have better health care I’m willing to lose some of mine.
* Disclaimer: This is my view-point. I’m not very political. I’m (mostly) just sharing this cartoon and titled the post the same as the video. But feel free to offer your 2 cents on the video.
The plan proposed by Obama is not an insurance plan for the uninsured; it is an universal healthcare plan.
I am not willing to give up the level of care my health insurance currently allows in order to provide a “socially sustainable, cost-effective plan.” I want my doctors to continue to put my individual needs as a patient first. In order to control costs doctors will not have the same freedom to order tests and procedures. In my opinion, once universal healthcare is initiated, individual healthcare plans will become obsolete.
Many companies will happily dump their healthcare coverage as they are currently struggling to manage these costs. It will be impossible for them to compete with the non-profit government system. How many diseases will go undiagnosed and for how long?
Sorry, you’re going to die and it isn’t worth the cost to save you…
I don’t know that the video is addressing any specifics of Obama’s plan at all. It’s a very generalized explanation on why we need some health-thingy run by the government. (Does it even mention Obama?)
I think that’s why they say ‘universal/socialized/call it whatever you want/health insurance’.
If some kind of health care becomes available for all in the US, I think that many employers that currently offer competitive health plans will still offer plans that consist of add ons to whatever the government is offering. They’d need to if they want to stay competitive; that’s the whole reason they’re offering competitive health benefits in the first place.
You have too much faith in a government if you think that a socialized plan will “help” people. Talk to some people in England some time and let them tell you how wonderful the government health care is.
