I live in Michigan, been there all my life, generally in the Detroit or East Lansing areas.

R.I.P. Harry

Harry Carswell passed away last week… I’ve restarted this a few times and I guess I don’t really know what to put here… I’ll start with a story: About three or four years ago I was visiting Harry in the hospital, I don’t remember exactly what he said the doctors told him, something like “six months to live” and I laughed and then he joined in so I felt a little better about it because I knew he knew why I laughed. We laughed because ten or fifteen years before that after some major heat surgery they had given him three to five years (or some other deadline he was way past). I’m sure a few other times (not even related to those issues) they had given him some other timelines and they all passed but then he’d have some other problems every so often. He knew it was time this time and moved back into his home last month because that’s where he wanted to be.

Tori in Detroit!!

ToriamosWoo Hoo! Tori Amos is going to be at the Detroit Opera House in April!!!!!! Not only is it a semi-small venue (at 3-4,000 seats it’s certainly not the Palace) it’s a very easy ride from my house.

Distance – Friday Q

FQ1: What’s the furthest North you’ve been on this world? What were you doing there?
Alaska, I went there on vacation when I was 15 (with a bunch of people I didn’t know).
FQ: What’s the furthest South you’ve been on this world? What were you doing there?
Costa Rica, I was there on vacation twice and I’m ready to go back again…
FQ3: Where were you born, and what’s the furthest you’ve been from that spot?
I was born in Michigan and the farthest away I’ve every been was probably Prague on vacation and it’ll probably be my summer trip this year.
FQ AWAY: Name a blog you read that’s the most distant from you… whether it be emotionally, culturally, religiously, or by physical location.
I’d swear that I read one in New Zeland but I can’t figure out which one it is.

From the Friday Q.

Another nice Saturday!

So it’s another nice Saturday in the Detroit area (Dearborn actually). Lots of sunshine and it’s not too cold either. Got the car washed, went to the library, ran a few errands and got and sandwich at Burger King. I’m posting this at the WiFi BK, their WiFi is semi-screwed up again but I managed to get around it get it to work.

Need to do some organizing around the house but I’ll wait until the sun is shining into that room. Not much of an exciting weekend but it’s nice to relax and get a bit more sleep than usual…

Arcadian Expressions

Diane is back after some intermittent posting and has a brand new layout (she’s actually been posting more regularly the past few weeks now). She’s a Michigan blogger (yeah!), taking classes in Computer Network Systems and is the Mother to five boys; it’s no wonder she’s “usually powered by Diet Coke and Brandy”. And she’s using these new/different smiley type faces as you can see here.

Happy Holidays from Michigan!

Did you get the snow that we got here (Michigan)??? We’re buried in a little bit here. They’re plowing behind my place or I’d be shopping, I was hoping they’d plow enough behind the condos so I wouldn’t pack it all down with the car. Plus it’s garbage day so it’s an extra disaster day out there. It all looks beautiful though, I can’t wait to go check out some lights at night.

Planetary Alignment

Anyone know anything about a planetary alignment tonight? (Or this week?) The weather guy mentions it (on the left down a little, by the video clip) but I can’t find anything on-line about it (Yahoo/Google/Space.com). A link (or two) if you had any information would be excellent…

Hospitals and Holidays…

So since I’ve moved back to the Detroit area I don’t don’t see some of my family as much. Here’s why: I’m now about 30-35 minutes away from most of them compared to 90 minutes. That might not make sense since I’m closer to them, but when I was 90 minutes away (East Lansing area) I came and spent the day or maybe the day and part of the next day and while I was there I’d visit others, heck if it was nice I’d rollerblade or bicycle around town and visit others. Now I’ll just head in, have dinner (or do whatever the mission is) and head home; voila 3 hours later and I’m home and visited for 2 hours where before that was just the the travel time.
