They got big tips

So I was just looking at the latest issue of The Week (crummy web site, interesting magazine). It says Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (the city of brotherly love) has “the best tippers in the country” at an average of 19.2% so they just happen to have a bunch of generous people living there?

Isn’t more likely they have a bunch of hard workers there?

  1. I’m in Philly, and I tip 20% – both because it’s easier to figure out than 15%, and because waiters/waitresses aren’t exactly raking in the big bucks. (I once accidentally tipped a pizza guy $10 for walking half a block – I heard the price wrong, and once I realized it, I certainly wasn’t going to say “Hey, give $7 of that back!” But I got really fast pizza delivery after that.)
