Arcadian Expressions

Diane is back after some intermittent posting and has a brand new layout (she’s actually been posting more regularly the past few weeks now). She’s a Michigan blogger (yeah!), taking classes in Computer Network Systems and is the Mother to five boys; it’s no wonder she’s “usually powered by Diet Coke and Brandy”. And she’s using these new/different smiley type faces as you can see here.

Happy Holidays from Michigan!

Did you get the snow that we got here (Michigan)??? We’re buried in a little bit here. They’re plowing behind my place or I’d be shopping, I was hoping they’d plow enough behind the condos so I wouldn’t pack it all down with the car. Plus it’s garbage day so it’s an extra disaster day out there. It all looks beautiful though, I can’t wait to go check out some lights at night.

All over town

So I Roller-bladed all over “downtown” Evanston today and got some good breakfast McThingy to eat at Einstein Bros.

Then I went up towards Northwestern and bladed around campus and they were having a huge run for breast cancer awareness month. It was chaos there! It was fun to watch and I got to sit down by Lake Michigan and see the water, hear the waves and see Chicago to the south. I love the campus there and the view is always so nice, I just wish it had been warmer out…

All that and I was done by noon.

Michigan Reviews

This is just a note about two new sub-categories I’ve added. Michigan and Reviews.

Michigan
is for things related to things in the state. Not specifically that I went to Zoo but info about it, but it might just be as short as “it’s the best bird preserve in the state!”
Reviews
info on anything (movies, music, games, books, etc). It might just mention a great preview or the best burger I ever had…

These are subject to change/grow. I’ve been wanting to do some reorganizing the other categories a little so it may grown with them…

Good BBQ Burger (Wyandotte, MI)

Went to Wyandotte (Michigan) today and went to some 50’s themed bar/brewpub on Maple and had The Back Yard BBQ Burger. What a great burger! It had Melted cheddar, crisp bacon, and BBQ sauce. The place was called Sports – A 50’s Bar & Grill. Good prices too!

Big article last week in the Free Press on Michigan Bloggers. This was the surprise that Melissa spoke of a few weeks ago.

Personally I read two of those every day, comment occasionally. Have read a few of the others. And now plan to read more regularly…. I mean they are the top 6 in the state….

  • Lighthouse Paradox – a novel

I know, I never review books enough, even when I mention I’m reading them I forget to post info later…

I know the folks who wrote this one so I was a little more motivated. It takes place on Drummond Island off the east coast of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The authors grew up there and one of them still lives there. I was at D. Ann’s place this weekend and noticed the framed picture in the living room (which has been there for at least a year) was a larger landscape version of picture that they had commissioned for the cover of the book. I’ve seen this a bunch of times and I just finally made the connection. But I digress…

My biggest problem (in talking about books) is telling enough but not giving the story away. It’s an historically accurate portrayal of life on the Island, life is different there than it is on the mainland. It’s a small-town people story, with some romance, a mystery and even a UFO all wrapped up into one story. It spans 60 years with several families stories intertwined as they try to figure out al the connections…

    Waffle Toffee Crunch Sundae

Went back to Garfunkle’s for another Waffle Toffee Crunch Sundae — london04-707warm Belgian waffle topped with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and laced with toffee crunch pieces. It was our third visit so far. They’re great!

While we were at Garfunkle’s we met a group of Girl Scouts from all over the US, there were ten from as many different states, most hadn’t met before a few days ago. None from Michigan… (Update, a friend just told me he knew a Michigan girl scout heading over for the same thing, but not the group we say). They were heading up to some Jamboree in Scotland. They were pretty entertaining explaining the whole thing and telling us about their day and getting the deluxe visit they got at the at the changing of the guard.
