Mildly Scary

So my friends know so much about the people whose blogs I read, I’m sure they sometimes forget these aren’t people that I run into daily (ever).

These aren’t the only ones I read, they’re just they ones I think my friends have enough info about to recall who they are when I bring them up.

  • Sarah – Srah in Texas AA.
  • Melissa – Detroit area, extra funny and whom I (and others) was afraid might give up blogging.
  • Dean – Also local and who I mention every time I pass the Kitty Chop Suey sign (and it was really a post by his better half!).
  • Alfie – From AA who sent me a BurnIt and is coincidentally the sister of Sarah
  • Lisa – With the Audrey Hepburn photo on the blog (who coincidentally also sent me a BurnIt CD)
  • Sarah – Sassypants, a Texas ex-blogger (where it seems like most female bloggers are from)

These folks are WAY more than this little definitions that I have here, but these are the key phrases that make my friends realize who I mean…

  • Six Years

I was just writing something, it said, “I’ve been back in the Detroit area (Dearborn) for around six years now.” and then I realized it was exactly six years today that I started working back this side of Michigan (I had been in the Lansing area for eleven years). I can’t believe it’s been that long. A few homes, a few relationships (broken hearts) and a few jobs later I’m still around here.

My (only) complaint(s) – still single and childless. (I thought that was going to turn into a long list of complaints, but I guess that’s all I’m really missing.) That doesn’t sound too bad but I don’t think was much longer than that when I got here six years ago…

Liz Phair, The Cardigans, Katy Rose and Charlotte Martin

Anyone planning on going to see Liz Phair and Co. on Friday the 27th in the Detroit area? We’re doing Happy Hour at my place (Dearborn) and then we’re heading on over to the concert in Royal Oak. If you want to stop by beforehand (or meet up when you get there) let me know.

    What could make this better?

Me passing guy with snack that made me ask “is that a chocolate chip cookie sandwich? From Melting Moments!?!” (In the Detroit area? This is an East Lansing delicacy.) He said “Yes”! I am a VERY happy camper. Yum!

    Movies and oil – saturday-8

These questions are from Laura at the saturday-8.

    1. today i am going to see the movie “troy,” as it stars my favourite actor of all time, the british sex god sean bean (says laura). are you planning on seeing it? why or why not?
Not really. It looks really long. I’d like to see the Trojan Horse scene though (duh!).
    2. the other day i purchased gas for $2.07 per gallon. i about threw up. what is the current gas price in your area? (please specify grade)
I put in 87 octane. It’s just gone over the $2.00 mark, which just kills me. I’m thinking I was seeing $2.03 and $2.07, this was the Deaborn (Detroit, MI) area.
    3. sean bean is my lust, and the german actor thomas kretschmann comes in at a close second. who are your first and second actor/actress “loves”?
Liv Tyler: ever since Stealing Beauty and Mary Louise Parker: ever since Fried Green Tomatoes. I’ll add Julia Stiles (but I don’t know what I first saw her in) to that list too, since #5 just made me think of her too…
    4. i am going to canada via syracuse, ny in july, and had to purchase my tickets WAAAAAAY early because we’re afraid the ticket prices will go up dramatically due to the rising oil prices. are you travelling this summer on a vacation?
I keep thinking I need to make some plans. Chicago? Toranto? London?
    5. is there any movie this summer that you’re looking to see this summer, or any books you want to read that are going to be printed & released this summer? tell us about them…
I’m looking forward to Spiderman 2, which is funny since I wasn’t looking that forward to the first and it wasn’t that incredible. I’ve been liking Will Smith’s movies so maybe I, Robot will be good. I just saw a preview for The Borne Identity sequel (Borne Supremacy?) looks fun too.
    6. what is your favourite vacation destination, and why?
Costa Rica! It’s warm, relaxed and it’s got two oceans! It’s really enjoyable, the not knowing Spanish is a little troublesome sometimes but dealable. The people are friendly and it’s warm.
    7. have you heard about netflix.com? if so, have you joined/are you planning to join, and why/why not?
I’ve tried it a few times before. It’s excellent if you watch a lot of movies, I should give it a try again, it’s been a while. I liked it better when it was just individual rentals. (For those who don’t know what it is: $20 a month gets you three DVD rentals as soon as you return one, they send out the next on your list. Postage is included).
    8. are you a good flier? i have problems on takeoff, but landing and flying are no problem.
Flying is generally no problem (a little air sick, but rarely). It’s dealing with the airports and security that makes me crazy, showing up two hours early for a ninety minute flight is counter-productive. I love the train, just show up a few minutes before, no parking problems, lots of room, very relaxinf.

Busy Week and a Busy Friday

After a lonnnng week, Friday finally came. But I guess with busy weeks can come busy weekends. The snow made things seem just a little bit crazier…

First was Happy Hour at our regular place, they were busy so we didn’t get one of our regular spots but we managed anyways, pizza, chicken, some taco thingies and our beverage of choice.

Then we traveled through the snow to Detroit to see an art opening by one of the teachers at work. It was a lot of fun and it’s always interesting to see coworkers in a different environment. You get to see them not in “work mode”, see the kinds of people they date and it’s always extra interesting if they had a few stops themselves before arriving.

Then we were off to Ann Arbor to see a band, actually another teacher from an old district, called L’usa. They’re a great band and they play a little bit of the top tunes from now to the 50’s. We hadn’t seen them for a while so we did the extra long trip, usually they play a little bit closer to the Dearborn area.

It was a lot of fun but a long night to top off the week, I really got to catch up on some sleep, I slept over 12 hours. It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to do that. I’ll have to try and get some work around the house done tomorrow…
