New store in my neighborhood

NewstoreCan anyone tell me what this new store is going to be? At first I thought it was going to be a Best Buy but now I’m not so sure. (Click it for a larger image). If you’re local this is over by the new outside mall in Allen Park (off Southfield between Oakwwod and Outer Drive) it’ll be next to the Meijer’s.

Any thoughts on what this is going to be?

  1. It’s definitely a Best Buy. The blue sweeping header on the entrance is a dead giveaway.

  2. Yep Best Buy…

    You lucky Boy!

  3. That’s my hope, a new Best Buy. The old one near me (probably just as close but opposite direction) hasn’t been expanded and needs some new space. And the new shiny Magnolia demo section.

I’m wondering if they’ll close the old one. There is a Target at each location and no sign of closing the old one of that…

  4. Yes Best Buy is opening a new store in Fairlane Green.

Wal-Mart is opening a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in the old Dearborn Super K-Mart sometime this year!

  5. Gary,

In Allen Park’s Fairlane Green, you already know which store exist on Fairlane Drive (west side).

On the opposing side is not only Best Buy but also Meijer will open in mid-May (while Best Buy is slated for early-summer).

Future openings: Sportsman Warehouse (which I believe is a direct competitor to Dick’s Sporting Goods) and The Home Depot).

Other stores will be available, meaning space made available, but nothing yet slated.

There will be a Flagstar Bank on that side as well. And I believe there’s ample room for a restaurant or two. (My guess would be similar merchants/restaurants that are established in neighboring cities in metro Detroit area).

    Hope this helps.

  6. Anyone know the opening day for the Allen Park Meijer store? In one of the additional spaces available, my wish would be for Apple to open a Wayne County store in Fairlane Green. There are two Apple stores in Oakland County; one in Novi and one in Troy. Also, one is opening soon in Ann Arbor in Briarwood Mall and the last Michigan Apple store is in Grand Rapids. I don’t suppose an Apple store in SE Michigan will happen though. However, I’ve read that Apple likes to lease from Taubman Co, which would be Southland or Fairlane Mall.

  7. New Allen Park Meijer opens May 16th.

  8. And the new sign is up at the new Best Buy!!!

  9. Any thing planned for the Meijer grand opening? I just moved to the neighborhood two weeks ago and I’ve been trying to find out info like crazy. I figured some residents may have had some things mailed to the house, but since I’m new, I may have missed it.

  10. I got a card in the mail for Meijer that said “Come celebrate with us May 20th at 7am.” That’s there grand opening celebration.

  11. Hello, again!

Meijer officially opened Wednesday, May 16 at 7 am. “Grand Opening” is Sunday, May 20.

When Best Buy relocated another of its stores — the one that was in Southgate; it is now in Taylor (attached at the south side of Southland Mall) — I asked an official there on Opening Day [Friday, Jan. 19, 2007] for an estimated date when Best Buy may open in Allen Park. He told me sometime around the middle to end of June. The way it’s been progressing, perhaps Best Buy can pull this off.

I was in one of the other Downriver Home Depots and asked if anyone knows when the new Allen Park store is slated for opening. Someone told me Home Depot expects to get it open in August.

Sportsman Warehouse isn’t being built yet.

As for what else may open in Allen Park’s Fairlane Green project: I would think of the stores in other Wayne County cities in shopping development projects built over the last few years. A lot of the same places turn up in one location followed by another. Be it Woodhaven or Westland — there’s a pattern.

I want to provide a link that may be of assistance: http://www.landmarkcres.com/prop_files/fairlane%20green_rendering.pdf

  12. Hello, once more!

I’m attempting to give more information on the shopping project of Fairlane Green (and, to a lesser extent, nearby Independence Marketplace) in Allen Park, Michigan.

This three-year project began [estimated late-2004 for breaking ground] and stores started opening in the fall of 2005. One hell of a project, and expected to be completed in 2008, this is on the land owned by the Ford family; and it was formerly occupied by the Veteran’s Hospital.

A couple links (you may wanna highlight, copy, and paste in a separate “Address” window):

A note on other shopping: Verizon opened its doors, two doors south of a corner anchored Panera Bread, Friday, May 11. This is on the west side of Phase I Fairlane Green. And in Independence Marketplace (on Outer Drive, north side), Dream Dinners opened its doors Thursday, May 3. (It’s located two or three doors north of Cold Stone Creamery, and situated in the west-end stores where Starbucks [south] and Staples [north] serve as anchors.)

I am curious about Phase III. (It appears, thusfar, that the project has not yet begun.) I wasn’t previously aware of such project, but it appears on the northwest side, and at a lower level (again, see link). Someone told me, going back a couple years, a movie theater might be built on the land; and if that were to be the case, that specific spot might be perfect).

I wanna end this by stating that I hope I’m not submitting any of these link information in an inappropriate manner. (I’m no tekkie.) I do want to get the information across for the benefits of not only Gary but also his readership. (Note to Carol: I get the feeling if Apple were to open a store in Wayne County, it would likely select Canton. I’m thinking the Novi store, the one coming to Ann Arbor—a certain marketing profile on where to open is what some companies, like Apple, find desirable. I’d love to be wrong, and to see Apple open in my area.)

  13. Best Buy – Grand Opening June 29th – Allen Park

As we’ve discussed before, I’ve got a new Best Buy Opening nearby in the north end of Allen Park. We’ll I just saw a billboard and the Grand Opening is June 29th 2007. There is another BB in Dearborn just 4-5 (7?) miles away so I wonder if that one…

  14. Does anyone know what store is being built next to the Target on the Oakwood side of Fairlane Green? They sure have the ground torn up on that side and I see trucks going in and out.

I work at the Barnes and Noble, so I see the project developing almost every day.

  15. They’ve got SO many stores over there now, my thought was a theater or some condos…

But I’m hoping they squeeze a Kohls in there somewhere. There just isn’t one around here anywhere.

  16. Jake Blues,

I’ve been told that this “Phase III” may house a movie theater.

    I agree that a Kohl’s would be a good idea (preferably a two-story building; one-story is a mistake).

  17. According to builder Landmarkacres’ Web site, Catherine’s and Potbelly will be coming to Phase II of Fairlane Green. They’ll be located on the west to northwest side of the parking lot, pretty much a straight walk from Best Buy or Sportsman’s Warehouse or Home Depot.

    Below is a link:

  18. Condos on top of a landfill?!

  19. I would like to see Kohl’s or Costco.

  20. I’d so like a Kohl’s on this side of town. I’m in the middle of this huge Kohl’s void…

Many of the Kohl’s are 5 miles from another Kohl’s and I’m easily 10 to the nearest one. And with city driving it’s probably faster to drive to one that’s 15 miles away via the highway.

I know some people live farther, but I probably have 20 of them within 20 miles but none near here.

  21. Are they still planning to put a movie theater near Target or Home Depot?

  22. This is the newest information I found on the project:

“Ford Land is also developing Phase III which will add
approximately 150,000 sf by way of a fitness center and movie
theater. Phase IV is a 43-acre park that will feature active and
passive recreational activities and nature study.”
