Wednesday Whatevers 5/5

What is the biggest problem in today’s society? 1) People need to Smile more! 2) I’m going to give a semi-political answer to this (and yet avoid the war). The government confusing governing with personal matters/morals. They also need to give more money to education! The reason they don’t is tied a little into the first statement. The government doesn’t get money doesn’t from corporations, the government gets taxes; politicians get money from corporations.
How does algebra relate to daily life? How doesn’t it? How do I know if it’s a better deal to get a six-pack of 20 oz. Coke or a dozen cans for the same price? How can I figure out how long it’s going to take to pay off that car? Or if I have enough to get 5 candy bars or 6? Algebra is daily life!
What do you use the computer for most? Lately reading and writing blogs. Other wise looking up movies, sales, a little e-mail, digital photos and such, listening to music and more. I use it at work all the time for research, providing information to others, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, powerpoint, training, scanning, etc.

17 hours!

I think that is a record for me for the amount of continuous sleep. Usually when I sleep for an extended amount I wake up for a few hours in the middle of the night. The most I managed here was to get a glass of water and the five minutes I needed to call into work, fortunately I knew I wasn’t feeling good last night so I had everything set up for today (just in case). Now I just need to figure out if I need to go to the doctor or not. I’ve been sleeping pretty good lately, including a 14 hour night this weekend. I’ve still got that heavy fuzzy feeling in my brain so I can’t tell if it’s leftover sleep, allergies or something else…

Now You See Me, Now You Don’t… – The Tuesday Iffers

If you could be invisible for a day what would you do and why? Hmm… This would have been been a lot more interesting when I was an adolescent. It offers some interesting voyeuristic opportunities but not much that you couldn’t do with some inexpensive technology these days. Wandering around backstage before a concert could be interesting. Having someone think their house was haunted might be a little fun. Maybe use it a way to figure how to get ahead at the casino? If it was only for a day I don’t think they’re be time to figure out how to turn it into a way to be a superhero, although it’s night like you’d need a costume or anything.

Reading – Tuesday Twosome

  • Do you prefer: Fiction or non-fiction? Fiction, unless it’s reference. If I’m building something or programming, fiction doesn’t help too much!
  • Do you prefer: Magazines or books? Books!
  • Do you prefer: Biography or autobiography? Autobiography, they generally add a bit of insulting tidbits that someone else (nice) might not add.
  • Name your two favorite books: “So You Want To Be A Wizard?” by DIane Duane, she just came out with book sever (or six?) been doing the kids as wizards way before Harry Potter; the difference is there a rules and prices to pay for large amounts of wizardry. “Lightning” by Dean Koontz, I can’t believe this hasn’t been made into a movie.
  • Name two books you haven’t read, but plan to: The new Jonathan Kellerman book called “Therapy”, it’s waiting at the reserve desk at the library. The new Wizardry book (“A Wizard on Holiday”?) by Diane Duane.

Going Back To School – Saturday Slant

You’ve been offered a full college/university grant, all expenses paid, for the school and study program of your choice. You can go to any school, anywhere, and study anything you want, without a single cent out of pocket for education, materials, or cost of living. Get your pencils and notebooks, let’s go back to school.

  • Would you take the offer? In a heartbeat.
  • Where would you go? I’d like to go somewhere different but I only speak english so my choices would be limited, probably England or Australia, downtown London possibly.
  • What would you learn? Would you pursue a course of study related to your current occupation, or would you explore something all together new? I’d probably pursue something semi-related to my current occupation (technology director for a school district). My first choice would be to get my teaching certificate but an out of the country certification probably wouldn’t do me any unless I stayed there (which wouldn’t be out of the question). My other choice would be to get back into computer programming, which is where I started and I miss that sometimes. If I had to pick something completly new I’d lean towards a science like astronomy.
