November 1st, 2011

Two things for today: a photo thing and a numbers thing.

Today is 11/1/11 or if you live over seas it’s 1/11/11. I like fun number things, in 10 days we’ll have another date number thing.

And in a few days my car milage will be 123456! So hopefully I don’t miss it. (I should verify that)

Yes, it is the little things that I enjoy in life! button-26things-125.jpg

The photo thing is a 26 Things project / collection. Slightly different than usual, it’s really 13 things but two photographs of the same topic. For example, one of the topics is “patters” so you could do two different patterns, you could do two opposite patterns, you could do two different perspectives of the same pattern (or just take a dozen different pattern pictures and post your two favorite ones). I like this twist, I’ve started a few times and never finished, but I think I will with this one. And I’ll probably post throughout the month as I get each pair completed (I think?). Plus, it’s less items to remember! Then you post your completed set on-line somewhere (flickr, blog, etc) and link to it from the project site.

This is where I eat lunch – Day 12 of 31 photos in 31 days

So if it’s nice outside, this is where I’ll go to eat lunch. It’s this tiny little park with four benches that (as you can see) needs a little trimming and some cement work. It’s the next block over from where I work, so it’s a nice short walk to get there. But there’s always a bench available and it’s usually pretty quiet.

The flag isn’t easy to catch, I’ve got a little too much sky in this image but the flag came out the best, so it’s the one I chose to use. This is for my 31 photos in 31 days project for yesterday.

zussman-park-hamtramck.png

It’s a small park, I’d say one-fourth of a “standard” city block. How big is that? It depends on the neighborhood, where I grew up blocks were about one-sixth of a mile long, in other places in the Detroit area, I’d say big blocks are about one-fourth of a mile long.

And yes that’s got to be the one of the most boring blog post titles I’ve ever done…

Painted – PhotoHunt

This is a building downtown on East Grand Blvd. and Beaubien St. I see it occasionally when I’m dodging I-94 traffic and take the sidestreets. We were on a bicycle pub crawl the other day and Jennifer was eyeing the colorful building from a distance so we pedaled over there to get a few pictures (and yes, I said “bicycle pub crawl”).

We’re standing on the corner of East Grand Blvd. and Brush St. looking East for this photo. The Fisher Building is a few blocks behind me and on the left.

It kinda looks like they just poured paint over the side of the building but it doesn’t really look caked on so I think it was more than that.

I tried playing with the focus for some interesting shots and while this one came out okay, I was really hoping for a sequence but didn’t get it.

The topic for this week’s PhotoHunt is “Painted” so it seemed like a good time to post these…

Household Chores – Friday Question #147

This week’s Friday Question is Which household chores do you like and which do you try to avoid?

Hmmm… Laundry is easy for me, I’ve got my own washer and dryer right off the living room and dining room. So I’m always doing laundry and it’s not much of a nuisance at all. Living alone I’m able to just leave things hanging up down there and wear them again (then start the process again). Every so often I take everything back upstairs and intentionally wear different stuff so people think I have more than the same seven outfits over and over again.

I don’t like cleaning the shower, so I’ve got one of those Scrubbing Bubbles automatic spray machines. It’s not perfect but it definitely helps keep the shower cleaner longer. Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower CleanerStarter Kit Scrubbing BubblesThe refills add up, but it really works and I just noticed the refills at Amazon (with subscribe and save) isn’t priced too bad, considering they’ll deliver to my door (I’ll have to double-check that with store prices); I’ve never done the “subscribe and save” there before (have you?).

And I don’t mind running the dishwasher either, I usually run it twice a week. I’m usually out of frying pans before it’s full. And I can multitask and empty it while cooking or something.

Vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing my floors are my least favorite. I don’t like stirring up the dust, it seems counter-productive, and washing the floors is … Well, who really likes to do that?!?

I’ve got a condo, so shoveling isn’t much of a big deal, just getting a few nooks and crannies that they couldn’t get to around the garage.

What are your likes and dislikes with cleaning?

Trees – Photo Friday

Trees is (are?) the challenge for today’s Photo Friday. I actually took more than a few photos of trees than usual so here’s a few of them.

This was a tree at the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve.

Up the beach from Montezuma, north-east about an hour(?).
I thought the dead(?) tree looked interesting extended above the forest.

Just some photos for your viewing pleasure, click for a larger view (although the larger tall ones aren’t that much bigger) with a little more descriptive text. Trying to figure how to best post photos for viewing…

Orange: PhotoHunt 226

Here’s an orange flower for this week’s PhotoHunt. There’s a bit of green in the photo too, I’ve really been liking the way green has been showing up in my photos.

Anyone know what kind of flower this is? I think I took this by the garden plots behind U of M Dearborn…

You can participate in PhotoHunts too.

Do you like surprises? – Friday Question #122

I love surprises! And I don’t need much. A weird candy bar I haven’t been able to find. A pint of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Coca-Cola in a glass bottle!

Great Ideas To Surprise Your Mom On Mothers Day: Here's A Guide to Help You Make the Perfect Plans for Wonderful Mother's Day Celebration!A complicated thing could possibly disastrous though: Don’t take me on a surprise trip to Chicago without my camera(s) and rollerblades (or bicycle). I’d need something to make be bring the right supplies. Tell me we’re hiking for a bit so I bring two kinds of shoes with a camera or two and that I should bring my blades “in case the new paved trail is done”.

Parties are good (I’m pretty happy with a party even if it’s not a surprise!). A trip around the world, surprise away, it should include some places that I want to go…

I’d be really surprised if Kim sent me some of those Star Wars cookies she baked :)

This question is from this week’s (#122) Friday Question

Symbols – Photo Friday

This is for Photo Friday and this week’s theme is “Symbols”. This is not my favorite picture that I’ve taken of hieroglyphics, but certainly by shear quantity it has the most symbols in it.

This is taken at the temple of Edfu, near the south end of the Nile on the west side. Most cities/temples were on the east side , I’m sure I was told why but I can’t recall; I want to say “evil” was from the west, but I really aren’t certain.

You can also view a huge 2300 pixels wide version.
