Free Star Wars Book (MP3, PDF, Kindle or Sony eBook)
I saw this on SlickDeals.net, get a free Star Wars book "Legacy of the Force: Betrayal") PDF, MP3, Kindle or Sony eBook through Tuesday, May 13, 2008. (If that link doesn't work try this link).
It looks like it's part 1 of a "Legacy of the Force" series that they're trying to promote, book 9 comes out on the 13th. The series is supposed to cover a "new era in the Star Wars universe and features the beloved characters from the original trilogy, answering the questions of what happened to Han, Luke and Leia after the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi".

I'm SO happy it's the weekend!
I think this is my first Seesmic embed, so if it doesn't work for you (or even if it does) leave me a comment. If the embed doesn't work properly, try the direct link.
It's kinda boring just looking at my head, I'll have to work on visuals or scenery.
If you try the direct link you can see what the 10 video replies are (I haven't even seen them all yet); they're blog style start and the bottom and work your way up. You used to have to log in to see these and now it doesn't look like you have too...

The BBC SciFi Phenomenon (or "My Doctor Who Weekend")
So I've really been liking the BBC's SciFi shows the last few years and this weekend was a Doctor Who related weekend. I've never liked Doctor Who until the last few years (I'll lean more towards I disliked it).
Here's my Doctor Who related activities this weekend:

So it was a good weekend of entertainment. And I got lot's of non-Doctor Who stuff done too...
As other shows go, the BBC has had Jekyll as a short series, is testing out Being Human and I hoe they keep trying out more!

I'm Sorry...
I haven't been doing much traditional blogging much. I've been spending all my internet time playing on Seesmic.com, which is kind of a video conversation/video blogging site. I'll be back soon (days not weeks)...
All these video's will seem way out of context if you don't play the whole thread....Seesmic Updates

Happy Mother's Day!
This is my Mother and I, it's not the best picture but it is the most recent one, just a few months old (I was showing her my QuikPod more than we were posing); you can tell we were just goofing around since she didn't make me fix my hair. Maybe we'll take a better one later today.
She's a been a great Mom and she had to work hard at it, she had to drop out of High School to have me and that can't have been easy in her very Catholic family. I do remember her going back to High School when I was in the first grade; she actually went back to school during the day, she didn't just get her GED she completed the Diploma. I don't really remember a commencement ceremony or anything like that (although I'll ask today if I can get it to come up) she must have just gotten the paper.
I'm sure having me changed her plans for life in many many ways. I don't know if she ever even got a chance to think about life after high school or if al of a sudden it was all over...
Thanks Mom! You brought me up pretty good and I came out mostly okay. Statistically, I'm doing pretty great - I'm gainfully employed, educated, not in debt (other than my home) and my only complaint is that I'm single with no kids (but I've still got some time for that). Thank you again and I Love You!!

Where Do People Spend Their Money?
The New York Times did a really cool graphic last week on what Americans spend their money on. It's a big graphic and you can zoom in (one level) to read the parts you can't see and the colors indicate change in prices over the last year. I really like the way they did it.
I've say it's very Edward Tufte, except for the odd shapes of all the pieces. He would have put it down differently, something more symmetrical (or square) so that you could have more easily compared milk to dry cleaning.
I found this at Get Rich Slowly.

Home Run! - If I'm mentioning sports, it's got to be worth mentioning, right?
I saw this at Dean's World. It was a interesting not-normal sports story and I decided to put it up a I was watching it.
But as I teared up a few times during the video, I decided I should share it with you all too...
There's a story here to go with it.

Comic Book Tattoo - Tori Amos
So they're releasing Comic Book Tattoo - Tales Inspired by Tori Amos which is, according to Tori's blog:
a 480-page, full color anthology adapting the themes and ideas behind her songs into a lush volume of sequential artit's a 12 inch x 12 inch book ($20-ish on-line). While this seems slightly odd, I will need one for myself!
All sorts of people are doing the fifty stories for the book with an intro by (who else) Neil Gaiman...
They also have a Comic Book Tattoo Limited Edition Hard Cover for $149 $95! I'm not sure if that's anything extra, like a larger format, nicer paper or autographed, if anyone hears anything, please let me know.
Both editions have "coffee table format book" in their descriptions, but is 12x12 large enough for that format? Or is the hardcover edition larger? larger would be better....

When you see a hearse....
Overheard from two old guys at the next table:
When you see a hearse heading towards the cemetery
you don't ever see an armored car following behind it!
Spend it now becuase you can't take it with you!
I got a chuckle out of that...

Bummer! I found my digital camera...
So I've been looking for a new pocket digital camera. I currently have a Digital Camera, a Minolta Dimage Xt 3.2MP; it does photos, movies, audio recording and in a pinch it'll work as a thumb drive (I think it'll even work as a webcam on a windows machine). I mentioned it as one of my top 5 electronic toys you can't live without a few years ago and it still is. It's awesome it takes wonderful pictures, it's a nice and small, but it doesn't work well in low light so when I'm shooting inside, that's really the only reason why I don't like it.
Last night I took it with my on a bike ride, they were already setting up floats for the parade today so I wanted to take a few photos up close. This morning I couldn't find it anywhere, I really thought I lost it on the way home. So I wondered down to the parade today with my awesome bigger clunkier camera, which takes beautiful pictures, but it's just a little big to carry around everywhere. Today, it really seemed too big so I pretty much made the decision that I have to go shopping for a new camera today. But sadly, I did another look around before I went shopping and I found the other digital camera.
I talked on the phone to my mother a few minutes ago and the first thing she said was "Bummer!" because she knew I would have liked to have had an excuse to go buy a new one. I really try not to be too wasteful with my with my technology dollars and buy every new thing that comes out.
I'll still be this one for a while longer but I am looking for recommendations on a small everyday camera, especially something that works well indoors but it has to have a viewfinder (I don't care about the size of the display) and as long as it's 4+ mega-pixels. Maybe something like a Canon SD1100, SD1000 or SD850, any thoughts?

A Fine Frenzy Part 2 - Detroit at The Shelter - March 2008
As music goes, I've talked about A Fine Frenzy as much as any musician, probably more and that's a lot since I hadn't heard of them 6 months ago. I started liking as soon as I heard of them (they were opening for a Brandi Carlile concert I had tickets for) and I wanted everyone to know know about them!
So Alison Sudol is a super sweet person and seems very sincere. She's got these great songs and wonderful voice. Alison talks between the songs but I think she'd rather just play, because when she plays it's like she forgets were there (this is a compliment, not a complaint). When I saw Liz Story, a pianist, play a few years back she talked between the songs because "her agent/manager made her" since if not, she'd just play for an hour non-stop; so she'd stop and tell us stories about the song and the song titles. I think of that sometimes when she's talking, either that or she's shy when not singing/playing.
So I keep thinking of two things she talked about. One was her mother and how much they got along and she really liked her (her Mom was there too, right up front). And the other is that she likes the word "shucks" and she's thinks people should use it more. "Shucks" And she said something like, 'I know I'm a nerd' (but I can't remember if 'nerd' was the actual word).
She's uses Twitter occasionally and the few MySpace e-mails that I've gotten from her seem like they were really written by her, that's got to take a lot of time.
And she's super nice when I've talked to her. And gotten her autograph both times. The promo poster from when I saw her at The Shelter (above) is signed by her you can see a bigger version...

Waiting at the Airpot
So we got to the Detroit Airport super early, but it really made it ultra-low stress since we weren't in a hurry at all and the lines were all pretty short so it's been pretty easy going so far.
My cool PacSafe secuity backpack got put through the xray machine a few times. I'm not sure if that's from the wire mesh that's in it or all the electronics...
