Concert Tickets – Brokers and Scalpers

So I saw this article on ticket scalping (I mean “brokers”) and was thinking that I never see brokers in Michigan like I do in other cities around the country. And it always makes me feel like the brokers are shifty, like you might get bad tickets or something, but then I saw this part of the article

Only five states — Michigan, North Carolina, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Rhode Island — limit brokering, according to the National Association of Ticket Brokers. Regulations vary. For example, in Rhode Island, the cap on the amount of the increase is $3, or 10 percent above face value, whichever is greater.

So that makes some sense to me now, you can’t do it in Michigan so if someone is doing it, it is shifty; and it’s legit in other states so it’s not shifty. We’ll, that make more sense to me now, it’s just something outside my normal experience of ticket buying. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I’m traveling and looking for tickets.

I feel bad for the kids who wanted to see the concert. But I thought $63 was a lot for the tickets before the brokers got them. It’s rare I pay that more than $60 for a concert; it’s only $20 (plus ticketmaster fees) for my concert tomorrow….

Brandi Carlile and A Fine Frenzy in Detroit – Sunday, October 14th

I know I’ve mentioned it a few times already but Brandi Carlile and A Fine Frenzy are going to be at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit this Sunday. Tickets are only $20 so you should check it out, I’m thinking there won’t be any at the door, this concert has been selling out all over. It’s a nice small venue so if you’re thinking of going then you better get your tickets.

When I saw her in Ann Arbor they made it a non-smoking show at the artist’s request (I’d assume that was Brandi and not the opening act) so I’m hoping it might be again (don’t worry smokers, I think the downstairs will be open for that). If you’re planning on going be sure to drop me a note to let me know you’ll be there…

Jewel – iTunes Originals

Jeweloriginals So there is a new iTunes Originals album out featuring Jewel and aptly titled Jewel – iTunes Originals . I always like the iTunes Original album since it’s got some interview tracks and usually has some odd music tracks on it too. The Jewel edition has 23 tracks about 1/2 that are songs. It’s $11.99 which is a little pricey if you have a few of the tracks, you can’t buy the interview tracks without the whole album. But it doesn’t seem to be smart enough to realize that I’ve purchased one of the tracks previously although that might have been before the 6 month deadline for complete that album. But it’s not my fault the album came out after the six month limit.

I do look forward to listening to this, I’ve got a bit of driving tomorrow to do so that’ll work. After the first few times, I can’t listen to the interviews any more so I can remove them from that playlist.

My Shirt has WiFi!

Shirt AnimActually it’s more that my shirt detects WiFi. I hope for the next blogger meetup we go somewhere with WiFi so I can wear my WiFi shirt! Watch the animation to the right…

Yes, I know I’ll look like a total dork geek, but isn’t that the point of a shirt like this?

London to Cardiff – best way to get there?

So I’m looking for a practical and cheap and semi-direct way to get from London, England to Cardiff, Wales. I figure my choices are train, bus or rent a car (I have no problem driving on the left). When I go to London in the spring I was thinking of spending a day or two over that way. Also, I’m looking for a place to stay in Cardiff near public transportation, decent but not too expensive (of course) a hotel or bed and breakfast would work. Of course I’ll want to visit this general area so I’ll need some walking tour information too (or book recommendation).

Cardiff Words LightI keep seeing it on TV and movies and other places so I thought I’d check it out. I’ve never been in that direction, I think the farthest west I’ve been is Stonehenge/Sailisbury.

Also, any bloggers who lurk around here and want to meet up drop me a note. I’m also looking for restaurant and other tourist recommendations. And if anyone knows about any Torchwood filming dates in the spring (I’m thinking they’re editing around now, so probably not) I’d be interested in that too, especially if you have any contacts related to seeing some of it.

Burnt My Lip!!! Pop Tarts are Evil!

I do understand that I just took the Pop Tart out of toaster but it really was a few minutes before I ate it. There was no warning of “Filling May Burn Gary’s Lip” or “Pop Tarts Burn” printed any where on the package, the pop tart itself or the toaster…

Do you think I have a case against Kellogg’s? Or maybe against my parents/teachers for not teaching me common sense?

I still think that it should have cooled off more, the edges weren’t even crispy. I do wish I hadn’t ignored the pain at the time, I probably could have avoided this blister…
