The Big Bang Theory

BigbangtheoryThe first episode of Big Bang Theory is now available as a free download from Amazon Unbox. You can put it on your TiVo(!) or on your PC. Supposedly there are other CBS show for free but I can’t find them…

This is an awesome show. It’s about a few geeks (science dorks) and the cute (but ditzy) girl next door. If you know any geeks you’ll love this show. It’s by the guy who did Two and a Half Men (and I think Dharma and Greg).

I’m sure this is only free for a limited time….

Fall Theme

So I changed my theme, I’ve wanted to for a while, but hadn’t get around to it. So after messing around with it for a while, I gave up and used an old fall theme.

Tech Deals Today

These deals probably won’t last (especially the cables) but I thought I’d mention them:
Cablestogo

  • Cables to Go kit $9.99 (free ship) – I’ve never seen these this cheap without a rebate. All sorts of travel computer retractable cables, even if you don’t travel you probably need a set of these for home.
  • $1.99 Domain names at Yahoo – New customers only and probably only one name but if you’ve been thinking of getting a domain name, why not now?!?
  • 25% off at Borders – Good through the weekend. They might make you get a free rewards card, but it doesn’t say required.I just bought two of the travel kits (and a few for work), I’ve bought multiple names from Yahoo! in the past and I’ve bought lots of books using these coupons so they’re all pretty good deals.

(None of the above are affiliate links – I just thought the cables were a great deal to mention so I threw in a few others).

  • My Sebring Convertible Rear Windshield was peeling from the roof

So the roof on my 7 year old convertible was starting to peel between the back window and the roof (I purchased it about 5 years ago). This seems to be a problem with many of the Sebrings when they start to hit the sever year mark (I should have taken a before picture). I will admit I am rough on the car and drive it through the car wash which probably has more to do with it than the weather although I’m sure Michigan ice buildup has something to do with it too.

I starting asking people who had Sebrings from the 7+ years range and most of the people I asked had replaced the whole roof since that was what was recommended to them!!! I figured, what do I have to lose if I muck it up if replacing it is the only option? After a while of googling around and asking at car places, I finally purchased some Permatex Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive which was suggested by my oil change guys (about $5 for a tube). It’s great, I’ve survived many major storms, done a road trip or two and gotten the car washed a few times over the last month since I’ve done it and it still looks great. It could be better but that’s my fault, I’m not so good at that stuff, if I had taken better care I’m sure it would be good as knew. If it starts to peel again I’ll just squirt in some more glue, even if it gets messy it’s better than how it looks when peeling. Continue reading

    Mom at the Apple Store

So my Mom went to get me a Gift Card from the Apple Store and she was talking about her experience there. I’ll paraphrase –

I had never been to an Apple Store, it’s kind of a strange store. It was 10:30 am on a weekday and they were packed, there weren’t any cash registers and it was just kind of odd. The store was very small but there were a lot of staff and they were all busy. It was a different shopping experience.

It was just an interesting experience listening to her talk about it, trying to comprehend the Mac fascination of the Mac users.

I kinda wished I had talked her into getting a MacBook, I just wasn’t sure if she’d use it and wasn’t sure if it was worth the extra expense (in case she didn’t use it). Now I know that it would have been…

    Free NBC Fall Previews

ChuckjourneymanYou can see Journeyman, Chuck, Life and Bionic Woman for Free with Amazon UnBox. This means you can download them straight to your TiVo and watch them on the big screen (or you can download them to a PC, but I’ve never done that) for a limited time. I haven’t seen Life yet, but I’ve seen the other three: Chuck is awesome, Journeyman is excellent, Bionic Woman is luke-warm but I’ll give it a chance (and you can see for yourself!).

On a side note, this ties to NBC cutting ties or getting pissed at the iTunes music store (I can’t remember why) and are now partnering with Amazon. I have no idea how long this offer might last or if the link will last but this is a permanent (I think) link to Amazon Unbox.Lifebionic

Amazon Unbox is an interesting service, more so for your TiVo than your PC (IMHO). You can rent high-quality movies for about $3.99 each, but each weekend they offer a half-dozen 99 cent ones (some are new and some are old), so keep your eyes open for those. Rentals are on your machine for 30 days but once you start to watch you only have 24 hours to finish (or re-watch it). Personally, I think 24 hours is too short, it needs to be about 36 hours; if I start to watch a movie Sunday afternoon at 4 and don’t finish it, I’m probably not going to be home from work in time the next day to finish it. I really think they need to extend the 24 hours (which is starting to be an industry standard) to about 36 hours (48?) or figure out some way to get another $1 out of me so that I can keep it for another day). It’s just more consumer friendly, it’s not like I’ve got the media and they need it to rent to another person. Continue reading

    Blog Cloud on your Shirt

Snapshirts.ComI thought this was kinda neat, SnapShirts.com will read your site and create a blog cloud and print you up a shirt. It’s nothing fancy but pretty easy to do.

They’ll e-mail you the image to use if you want too. If you’ve never done anything to generate your word cloud, it’s easy to do and interesting to see what comes up.

    Only 1 year left…

I’ve only got 1 year left in my 101 in 1001 list and I haven’t made much progress lately. I’ve used about 2/3 of my time but only done about 1/3 of my items.

It really has helped me get other items done in my life, they don’t get on the list since it’s static but they are the kinds of things that would be on the list…

(Later – Actually it’s a few days less than a year, for some reason I thought the 9th was “the day”, I guess it’s September 4th, 2008.)
