They Promised Me Rain…

I had my day planned and I had to rearrange the whole day. So instead of cleaning, running errands and other boring stuff I had to do something else.

This means I got to go rollerblading and drive around in the car with the top down!!! It was 60+ most of the day so I’m really enjoying this (I didn’t say I was complaining, just that it was promised). It’ll probably rain later (or sooner) since they’re still forecasting it (tomorrow too) but maybe they’ll be wrong again and it’ll get up to 70!!!

Egyptian: Pimsleur Quick & Simple

So I’m listening to the Egyptian Arabic Pimsleur Language CD in preparation for my trip. It’s hard!! I have no aptitude for language but they say it doesn’t matter (I say it does). I’m only on the first lesson. It’s kinda hear what the guy says so I can’t always repeat it, I’ll probably go over that and sounnd like the woman on the tape.

Most of the reviews on Amazon are favorable (except for the person who said there wasn’t enough info on grammer and more in the four hour course) so maybe it’s just me, we’ll see how I feel after a few more hours…

Conspiracy or coincidence?!?

Every time I’m in Grand Rapids it’s always such a struggle to find Coca-cola. This does not make me very happy, especially when I’m dying for a coke…

Magical things…

I just really liked how this sounded so you get get to hear it too.

‘‘There’s something sort of magical about putting flour and sugar and eggs and chocolate chips in a bowl and having it turn into cookies that taste this good.’’

Mi

57 More of the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World: The Recipes That Won the Second National Chocolate Chip Cookies Contest St. Martin's PressMi from Le blog d’une voyageuse de femme said this and it stuck in my head (and now I want cookies).

Tori Amos: Fade to Red video collection

Tori fade to redThis is a little different it’s Tori Amos: Fade to Red a video collection and commentary from the Apple iTunes store. It looks good, I’m not just sure if I want to buy it and it’s not DVD quality. Most of it’s old stuff that I already have on video or DVD. I guess I should check to make sure, it’s possible I already have all of it…

They have all the other Tori Amos music, videos and they actually have a few live concert “bootlegs” too (Boston, Manchester, London, Denver, LA and Chicago).

The Unit

TheunitSo I’m watching the pilot of The Unit, which sucked me in, it wasn’t my plan. I’m tired and I’m on call for the shelter tonight (until 8am) so I was going to hit the sack in case I go called. But I’m really liking this show. I like the cast (Dennis Haysbert, Scott Foley and others I can’t think of) and then after a few minutes I realized it was the David Mamet show I heard about, I hadn’t heard anything about it (I think I saw it on the front of the entertainment section but then missed the article). He usually does theater or movies, I’m guessing this is his first series. The one thing I remember hearing about him is that if he does something and didn’t write all it he uses a pen name for producing (or something like that). So back to the show, it’s a group of military guys in a unit, a unit that has no name, a unit that gets things done. I like it so far. (a lot)

Numbers and more numbers.

So you know how excited I get when I get a cheap price for gas. Today I paid $2.43 and I thought that was pretty good. But as I ran around it got cheaper and cheaper. The lowest was $2.31! It must have dropped everywhere but on the north end of Dix (before it ends) it got lower and lower.

I got Chinese food for dinner so i played those numbers for the Mega Millions and picked up an easy pick too. It’s only $18 million, but what the heck…

Tsotsi wins Oscar for best foreign language film

So the the guy who accepted the oscar for Tsotsi (Director Gavin Hood?) for the best foreign language film was very interesting. He starts by saying ‘I have a speech written in my pocket but the TelePrompTer tells me I only have 38 seconds so please go to tsotsi.com for a list of everyone I need to thank.’

He then goes on to that the two stars and asks them to stand up and asks the cameras to point at them. Then says “10 seconds” and thanks a few more people. And wraps it up…

It was just a different speech than usual and educational for me as well (to how things work up there). And the site was very slow after he gave the web address.
