We will be together forever…

Megan RyanOne of the last of my painted rocks entries (see some other painted rock posts).

So when I first saw this rock and noticed the way it was written I thought that something happened to Meghan, maybe she died or was in a coma or something, but later when I was looking at the images I didn’t think see it that way so much. But now as I’m writing this post I feel it again. Something about Meghan makes me feel like she’s in the past tense (especially the last sentence), I get the idea that Meghan was never going to see this rock and it made me wonder why? What do you think when you read it?

One Small Step (a long time ago and kinda far away)

So it’s been 36 years since we landed on the Moon. I still think that is so cool. I really thought we’d be making field trips there by now but unfortunately that isn’t the case. These days I’m just excited/hopeful that we’ll get the shuttle missions going again.

For my birthday last year (or maybe it was Christmas) I got this Apollo 11 Artifact Kit. It’s got all sorts of cool paraphernalia in it (mission patch, moon map, travel voucher, customs declaration, school photos of one of the astronauts kids and other interesting stuff) and a book too. My mother saw it the other day and commented on how much her dad would have liked it, he’s the guy who got me interested in space and science. I don’t know if he ever knew that. I remember him taking me up to the library and getting books when I was little and I remember getting something to do with space at the same time he was (my version had lots more pictures than his did). It’s that first time that I always think of when people ask me about how I got interested in science and technology. I don’t know what was going on that made him interested, maybe a space mission or the anniversary of some launch or maybe just plain old curiosity.

Beamed Up for the last time

JamesdoohanJames Doohan died today in his home in Washington at the age of 85. We all knew him as Scotty, the chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise on Star Trek. He was the one who always fixed the ship just in time and responded to the communicator call of “Beam me up, Scotty”. His ashes will be launched into space. He did quite a few other different movies and television shows. He always seemed like such a sweet guy on the show and in interviews…

$3,840 a gallon!!!

I know we complain about the cost of a gallon of gas, but Al figured out the cost of a gallon of ink for your ink jet printer. Found at The Arizona Log.

Blondfire (formerly known as Astaire)

BlondfireIf you recall I was talking about the band Astaire (that opened for Ivy) last month. They had to stop using the name Astaire and changed it to Blondfire. (Why? The Estate of Fred Astaire complained). The important thing is that they just released a new $3.96 four song EP (only at the iTunes store) it’s got three tracks not on their first EP (only $4.49). I’m liking it so far. It says it’s live but you’d never know it. The track titled “L-L-Love” is on both EPs and the Monster In Law soundtrack (although this version is live).

Avril was excellent!

Avril LavigneSo the Avril Lavigne concert was great! She was at the DTE Music Theatre (Pine Knob) and I mangaged to get some great seats (row E). It was one of the better concerts I’ve seen in a while. All the screaming enthusiastic fans reallly help to get you going. I don’t know how tall she is, but she can’t be much over 4’10“ (150 cm) and she’s constantly bopping around all over the stage. She literally skipped around in circles during the parts when she didn’t sing. She played all the songs I wanted and I think she played every other song I knew. She played for over two hours! Some just singing, some guitar, piano and the drums. It was really great.

Almost About Harry Potter

So I kept seeing the name Mary GrandPré with all the Harry Potter stuff and realized she’s the one that does all the art. She has her own website (http://www.marygrandpre.com/) with all sorts of stuff there. Art you’ve seen, what she did for the cover of Time and more. Plus they’ve got a bio for her too.

Avril in my Eyes

AvrillavignetmSo, as you know, I’ve had Avril Lavigne in my head lately. Especially: Fall to Pieces, Sk8er Boi, My Happy Ending and I Always Get What I Want (mostly the first one). So she’s in town (Detroit-ish) tonight Pine Knob (DTE) so I picked up some tix and now she’ll be in my eyes and my ears!

I’m in Row L so my photos wont be very good, so if anyone gets anything better let me know where you post them or send a few my way. Thanks!
