Music Recommendations: The Lacivious Biddies

What piece of music have you listened to just because someone you respect or admire – but don’t actually know in person – recommended it?

The Lacivious Biddies. They do an interesting mix of music and harmony. Adam Curry, (the father of podcasting (and former Mtv VJ), loves them and plays them on his show and I really liked the songs he plays. I jsut got the CDs last week and a few tracks have grown on me (a few others I’m not sure of yet). Here’s a few samples: You don’t know me, (I Wanna be) Famous, Coney Island and they do a great cover (of the Go Go’s) Head Over Heels too!

They also do a podcast – The BiddyCast.

Want your art in a famous museum?!?

Hope to have your art in a famous museum someday? Why wait? Just go hang it yourself!!!

A guy did this in The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum and New York’s Museum of Modern Art. This is something if I tried it, I’d get caught and accused of stealing the art! (FYI – Tesco is a European grocery/department store.)

A new super high-tech device!

It’s 10.00 GHz AMD Athlon, 2000 MB RAM, 30000 GB, weight 14.00 hundredths-pounds and it runs DOS!!! What is it? I’m not sure what it is, but it’s on Amazon and it’s got great reviews (62 comments as of right now). Be sure to check it out, I liked it so much I added one to my wishlist.

Note: I see they’ve cleaned this up a lot (as of April 16, 2005). I think I saved a PDF but that might have been between my last backup and a hard drive crash.

Molly has the rules for you

Molly has some great rules for How to Live a Lousy Life. I know you’ll laugh when you read this (sad) list, but only because you are picturing someone you know with each rule you read.

I saw this at Amy’s (she’s actually got this printed out and on her refrigerator).

Battlestar Galactica the Podcast

So if you’re watching the new Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi channel (several times per Friday night) there is a way to listen to a commentary by producer Ronald D. Moore (like the director’s commentary you can listen to on DVDs). They are marketing these as podcasts but they are really just MP3 files (but of course you can get them with your podcasting client. I haven’t listened yet (I’m a few weeks behind on my TiVo) but I thought I’d mention it…

SXSW – How have I not known about this?!?

SwsxThe 2005 SXSW (South by SouthWest) festivals + conferences in Austin, Texas. It’s a ten day Music & Media Conference and a intereactive technology festival and a film conference & festival! Over 1300 musical acts! It’s been happening in some form or another since 1987 growing and adding additional conferences…

Are you sad you missed it too? Well you can download over 750 songs (in one huge bittorrent) by some of the bands there (full-length high quality mp3s). It’s 2.6 GB so be prepared to leave your computer running for a while (I can’t promise how long this download will be available).

We Luv Ya Harry

Harry F. CarswellHarry loved the Harrison Roadhouse so after the funeral (see my earlier post) we went to the Roadhouse to eat and drink (and be merry) and they had changed the sign out in front of the restaurant to read “We Luv Ya Harry”.

The funeral was at the MSU Alumni Chapel and it was packed to capacity (standing room only). Harry seemed to know everyone and everyone seemded to really care about him. The service was great and Darren gave an excellent speech on Harry meeting Melissa (Mom) and becoming part of their family and Harry becoming his and Rebekah’s Dad. A few others had things to say up on the podium but we weren’t really sure if we should applaud but when Darren was done we knew we should…

New colors and background

It’s been making me crazy that I haven’t ever finished changing my layout after I started it a few weeks ago (I never intended to permanently keep that crazy background). I’ve looked for layouts and backgrounds a few times but never really found what I wanted. Actually I still haven’t found exactly what I wanted, I really wanted something with a more “springy” feel to it (but I was trying to avoid flowers and such)…

Trish had some patterns that I liked so I picked them up for a great price from In A Mood Designs at iam-designs.com

I really liked the background I’m using (scroll down to see it without text in front) it’s got the greens I was looking for (with some yellowish tones and red) but in an outer-space nebula-ish looking way (but I never ended up using the greens in front).
