Best fix for my Convertible Rear Windshield

So last summer my Sebring convertible roof was peeling from my rear window. I didn’t want to replace the roof (the most common suggestion) so I glued it with some Permatex Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive for a mere $5. I can’t believe how well this held up throughout the winter and this summer. It doesn’t appear to be peeling at all, I thought I might have to re-glue it a few times a year but it’s holding up great.

I know this is kind of a boring entry but I’m amazed every time I notice how well this has held up…

My Sebring Convertible Rear Windshield was peeling from the roof

So the roof on my 7 year old convertible was starting to peel between the back window and the roof (I purchased it about 5 years ago). This seems to be a problem with many of the Sebrings when they start to hit the sever year mark (I should have taken a before picture). I will admit I am rough on the car and drive it through the car wash which probably has more to do with it than the weather although I’m sure Michigan ice buildup has something to do with it too.

I starting asking people who had Sebrings from the 7+ years range and most of the people I asked had replaced the whole roof since that was what was recommended to them!!! I figured, what do I have to lose if I muck it up if replacing it is the only option? After a while of googling around and asking at car places, I finally purchased some Permatex Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive which was suggested by my oil change guys (about $5 for a tube). It’s great, I’ve survived many major storms, done a road trip or two and gotten the car washed a few times over the last month since I’ve done it and it still looks great. It could be better but that’s my fault, I’m not so good at that stuff, if I had taken better care I’m sure it would be good as knew. If it starts to peel again I’ll just squirt in some more glue, even if it gets messy it’s better than how it looks when peeling. Continue reading

Feast Four – Friday’s Feast

Appetizer
What kind of car do you drive? If you could make an even trade for any other car, what would you want to drive?
Sebring convertible. I love it. I don’t have anything I’d really rather have that’s practical at all. Maybe one of those cars you can drive into the water and it’s a boat too? Those are convertibles too, right?
Soup
Take your phone number and add each number together separately (example: 8+6+7+5+3+0+9=38) – what’s the total?
24!
Salad
When were you last outside, and what were you doing?
An hour ago and I was bike riding.
Main Course
What is your favorite restaurant, and what do you usually order there?
No real favorite but I usually have a favorite thing or two from each resturant. I have two Chinese restaurants I eat at every-time I’m in the Lansing Area (Beef with Broccoli and Pineapple Chicken).
Dessert
Name 3 things in which you occasionally indulge.
Cookie Dough ice cream. Cookie sandwiches from Melting Moments in Mid-Michigan. Waffle Toffee Crunch Sundae ( warm Belgian waffle topped with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and laced with toffee crunch pieces) from Garfunkle’s in England.

An Auto-biography – Sunday Brunch

1. Who taught you how to drive?
My step-father taught me how to drive a motorcycle when I was younger (8?) that with I suppose with watching and sitting on someone’s lap when I was little, it was pretty simple to learn to drive. I took driver’s education classes but pretty much had it figured out before then. But all the extra stuff like merging politely and parking were from the class.
2. How old were you when you got your driver’s license?
Sixteen and a half.
3. What kind of vehicle(s) do you own?
Sebring convertible. I love it! I don’t ever want to have to own a non-convertible car again.
4. Is it an automatic or stick shift?
Automatic. Stick is way more fun, but it’s only fun when you’re not stuck in trtaffic…
5. Do you keep the inside of your vehicle sparkly clean, fairly clean or pretty much messy?
Mostly messy. In the summer I keep it a little cleaner for two reasons: Stuff tends to blow out (self-cleaning car) and if I keep it clean I know what’s in it so I can leave the roof down when I run into a store (etc.).

Saturday Drivers – Saturday-8

1. Have you ever been in a serious accident? If not, how about any accident?
Yes. Stopped at a light, some guys in the car behind us were ogling a woman on the side of the road and plowed right into us. I saw them coming and grabbed my girlfriend (in the passenger seat). Our car then went forward to hit the car in front of us that had a baby in the back seat (which was okay). Said GF still managed to hit rear-view mirror with head (broke the mirror off) and her glasses flew off which we found in the back of the hatchback compartment. We even had our seat-belts on!
2. Have you ever been ticketed for an accident and if so did you pay it or fight it?
Yeah, a different very minor accident, I lost so I ended up paying it. I thought it was iffy enough to try.
3. What kind of insurance do you have and would you recommend it to your friends?
I like my State Farm, good prices and not too many issues…
4. Did the accident cause you to change the way you drive?
No.
5. Did you need a rental car? If so, did you get a better car or worse one than you had? If not, what did you do for transportation?
THe above accident was the gf’s car, I think she borrowed one from someone else in the extended family.
6. Have any of the mishaps you’ve experienced with your vehicles given you impressions of the quality or safety of certain vehicles?
No.
7. When in an accident were you alone, with someone, with your children, etc. Did that make a difference in the situation?
Oh yeah, it’s one thing to have something happen to me but to someone else, when I’m driving, yuk… The accident with the gf above we were stopped (so not my fault!) but there is definitely the extra sense of panic…
8. Finally if you could drive any vehicle you wanted, what would it be?
Assuming I can’t pick the space shuttle or the Batmobile… Actually I’m not really fussy about cars. I love my convertible. I’d love a hybrid that was a convertible that was still large enough (like my Sebring) to keep all my junk in!

Hopefully everyone drives safely and gets where they are going. Be well and we’ll see you here (Saturday-8) again next week.
