Fire-Dancing Video

Here’s a video of the fire dancing from the other day in Montezuma.

And (of course) the direct YouTube link.

Fire Dancing in Montezuma

So I’d really been looking forward to the fire dancing in Montezuma. I haven’t seen it done as much the last few trips and I knew it was on the schedule as entertainment for the Film Festival. It wasn’t the local group that I’ve seen do street shows before but they were excellent. Most had some kind of costumes or makeup on which added to the whole effect.

It’s hard to capture but I think these turned out pretty good. A few of the ones in the woman in costume I pulled from video I took so the quality might not be so great but I wanted you to see…

I only show a few photos here, the other dozen are here (including larger versions of them all) or click for the fire dancing slideshow (same photos).

The Magic of The Internet

The Internet is truly magical:

  • Thursday
  • 7:00 am – Stove catches on fire!!!
  • 7:05 am – It’s just the heating element for the oven (I was warming my plate for breakfast), as soon as I turned it off the heating element disintegrated.
  • 7:10 am – I’ve found the model number for my stove (I’ll need this).
  • 10:00 am – After 5 minutes on-line I’ve ordered the part from the GE.com web site.
  • Friday
  • 1:36 pm – Part arrives via FedEx.
  • 6:30 pm – I look for the right size socket (10 minutes later I find it).
  • 6:40 pm – Five minutes and two screws later, I’ve got my stove fixed!

This is not my area of expertise in the least but this looked pretty simple so thought instead of waiting for a repair guy I could do it myself. I saw the part on-line cheaper, but I wasn’t sure they’d ship it fast, I knew GE would get it out and not have to order the part from somewhere else. Total $79.14 shipped overnight!

I guess I could have looked local but I didn’t have to spend any time looking for this part or calling anywhere so this really worked out for me…

  • They Danced with Fire in the Streets!!!

dancing with fire 3Picture 8So we’re in Montezuma (Costa Rica) now. A great little town on the peninsula (more on that later). We had just kinda given up on the night and were heading back. And there was a group dancing in the street so we started to watch. Then they started using some sticks and some chains with weights and then they lit them on fire. And then they danced around some more. It was very very cool, eventually the crowd was huge. I did run up and get the video camera but I’ll have to put that up later (if it came out).

    Smoke Alert

It wasn’t that I burned the bacon to a total crisp this morning that I find distressing. It’s the fact that none of the four nearby smoke detectors went off. They’re not smart enough to know that I was cooking, are they?
