I’m using MovableType 2.661 I’m missing having sub-categories and I was hoping some of the dynamic features might help speed up my rebuilds. I’ve also been getting really slow responses when posting comments. I do a lot of odd dynamic stuff already (the body of my messages only get built once (processed once) and they just get included everywhere else (although this isn’t really helping me on rebuilds since it’s probably rebuilding the pages anyways, it may actually be smarter than that). I use Mt-Blacklist and some other plug-ins. Some of my category archive rebuilds are really getting slow (I’m sure my date archives are slow two, but the categories just keep growing).
I thought with TypeKey and comment moderation at a minimum I could turn off MT-blacklist on comments and just use it for trackbacks (assuming that’s one of the things slowing it down) and Lisa recommended MT-Keystrokes for this too (but I think that’s just for MT 3.x). I’m also still reading some confusing stuff on if MT-Blacklist is fully-functional for MT 3.x (does it have all the same features, I don’t care if some of the new features aren’t perfected yet).
What’d I’d like to see is some rebuild stuff that is were a little smarter when I did reposts. Something like “your message is posted, please verify it and if it is a-okay then press OK to rebuild your indexes, archives and categories”. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t do this.
So I’m really looking for your two cents on if I should upgrade or what else I should consider. Anyone have any feedback on this or any of the above?

I can’t use 3.0 on most of my sites because I have more than one author and I don’t feel like paying for MT. I’ve been wanting to try the upgrade though… if you decide to do it, please post about the process.
I would say yes. I moved from 2.x to 3.x and quite honestly it was no problem whatsoever to do. The painlessness of the upgrade is half of the reason to do so.
Blacklist works fine with 3.0 though Brad Choate has come out with a new plugin that works for both comments and trackbacks and has Jay Allen saying how fantastic it is.
I think the main question you should ask yourself on this is why (beside effort) would I want to stay with MT 2.x?
It works pretty well as it is (it’s not broken). I did most of my other upgrades for security, not features. I’m not the guy to switch cars every year just because there is a new model (although I do switch computers more often than cars).
Effort is one big reason. I’m sure a few things will break with the upgrade. I’m sure a few of the other plugins I use will have some problems. The process looks pretty smooth though. Pricing is different so I need to factor that in also. And it works right now. If something goofy happens during my upgrade and really breaks something, that’ll be a big hassle.
Actually no one has given me any huge reasons to switch (other than why not). Although I do hear how good the Choate plug-in is (mostly from Jay).
I really need some rebuild speed and I’m hoping the dynamic pages will help with that…
I’m definitely leaning towards upgrading, just was looking for some convincing…
Personally, if you don’t change platforms, I would go ahead with the move to MT3.
