Enterprise – The Series Final Episode

So I really enjoyed the final hour (it was really two one-hour episodes) and I really wasn’t expecting that after the first hour. I just watched it (I just love TiVo) and I have spoilers so don’t read on if you haven’t watched it yet (I’m assuming real Star Trek geeks already watched it).

In case you don’t watch it: Enterprise takes place about 100 years before Captain James T. Kirk’s Enterprise (which is about 100 years before Picard’s Enterprise and Voyager). It’s the first warp exploration ship and it takes place about 100 years after the invention of warp drive on Earth.

To make things more complicated the second episode (of the two) starts five years after the end of the previous episode. Then you find out it’s really just a holodeck simulation from another 200 years from the future. It contains a few guest characters from The Next Generation (I’m not saying who, just in case you haven’t seen it yet). And it actually takes place during the middle of TNG series and ties it into another story-line from the series. It’s additionally chronally-imparied because the final scene was shown in an past Enterprise episode during a time-travel trip to the future (and far future). The amazing thing is, it was wasn’t confusing.

It actually tied a lot of the story-lines up very nicely. I would have liked it if a bit more had changed as time went by: someone married or some additional cast members (a few cameos would have been fun) or maybe a hint of some other past future event…

  1. Uhhhh… did we watch the same show? I thought it was utterly horrible. It was a hack that didn’t tie ANYTHING up for me… it butchered what little good was left in the show.

After that touching scene with T’Pol and Trip in hour one, we suddenly jump ahead and learn that their relationship must have ended two minutes after that talk? LAME.

And don’t get me started on the LAME death. LAMEST of the LAME there. The preceding “missing five years” must have been completely uneventful if this is how a hero goes down! LAME!

Argh… and the tacked on NextGen show with the ever-crappy acting by Jonathan Frakes… kill me. Kill me now.

I didn’t think anything could out-crap “Voyager,” but they proved me wrong with the last hour of “Enterprise.” :-(

  2. So Dave, you thought it was kinda lame?…

Did I mention that “future history” stuff and “time travel” shows always make me happy!?!

Actually I thought most of the series was kinda lame, but I liked the “past future history” stuff, but the time travel on this series was beyond cRaZy…

The first hour didn’t do anything for me. It wrapped up a dumb story-line and to top it off they made it sad. :(

The fact that nothing seemed to happen the missing years was dumb (lame!) and everything seemed the same (except T’pol’s hair). Although now they can do some “missing years” books.

The interacting of Holodeck characters is always strange…

I’m assuming there aren’t going to be any Enterprise movies so they didn’t need to leave anything really open. They just made it happily ever after (except for Trip).

I liked the time twists and the tie in to the TNG story-line.

  3. It was pretty much lame, as far as I was concerned. I mean, yeah, blowing oneself up to take out an enemy boarding party is pretty heroic and all that, but come-on, where’s the suspense? What, we don’t *know* that Riker fessed up to being a part of an illegal experiment?

Oh, and by the way. If the Enterprise-D had such detailed records of the NX-01’s crew actions that they could recreate them on the holodeck, how come Pickard and company were so surprised to meet the Borg? Shouldn’t they have known about them?

As for the prior two episodes, what, don’t we know that any attempt at ending an Earth/alien alliance is a fruitless undertaking, doomed to failure? And we didn’t even get to hear the speech that got the ball rolling. How lazy is that?

  4. I am a huge fan of all the Star Trek series, even Deep Space 9.

I am not a fan of the whole temporal war plot line. I hated when they started the whole time travel thing on all of the Star Trek series. Time travel just introduces too many problems in the plot over all.

As for the finale(s). I liked the next to last episode much more than the actual last episode. As a coworker pointed out – the tie in to the Next Generation crew was flimsy, at best. The story itself was alright, but frankly it reminds me a lot of other finales of late – they suck compared to what the rest of the series was. Enterprise may not have been the best of the Star Trek series but the rest of the series was much better than what the finale.
