Biking on Hines Drive today

So it’s Saturday and I was biking Hines Drive (again). It was extra windy so it was ext a difficult biking, but I’d got the 25-mile Tour de Troit next week so I thought maybe I should do the whole 15-miles today.

It was extra green today, so that was nice, summer has been so dry, the grass has looked like straw and I’ve been waiting for tumbleweeds to roll out in front of me.

I did get to see a dear running (galloping?), I had seen it a few minutes before and waited for it to come out the woods, but it didn’t so I started biking and it caught up to me again. I didn’t even stop to take this one, it’d have gotten away if I had!

I saw this guy go zooming by on his Lightning F40. He was flying (I didn’t stop to take this one either) I saw him pass the bikers in the distance and look how far away they are still! He was flying!

Amy, Make them remember you…

I’ve said before, Daleks are one of my least favorite Doctor Who villains, but “Asylum of the Daleks” is probably one of my favorite episodes and I can’t stop thinking (remembering?) a specific part. Last week, when The Doctor thought he was going to die, he told Amy to “make them remember you”. Why?

The episode has a bit of remembering. Most significantly with Oswin Osawld saying “remember me”. Amy made Professor Bracewell (a Dalek robot, not a Dalek) remember his humanity back in WW II. Those two things have a bit in common. But there were also the human/Daleks with their insides scraped out, who were still intact inside.

Or did he just want to stir up her memories to get her thinking about her and Rory?

But I think back to early when he first met her when she did not know what a Dalek is. She didn’t remember them attacking Earth in her time. Yes, I know we’ve re-written history since then, but she didn’t know that before then.

But it also makes me think back the day he first met Amy, there were no ducks in the duck pond. No ducks in the duck pond where Amy Pond lives. This is significant. It has to be. It’s been referenced a few times.

Not to leave you with the my concerns of the ducklessness of duck ponds, I’ll change topics. The other surprise was the old model Daleks on the ship, I thought they’d be exterminated at the end as they were in “Victory of the Daleks” in World War II. Another Dalek inconsistency that I’ll have to live with.

Wait! This is actually important and likely (possibly) Spoiler containing. At Christmas we will get a new companion named Clara, her’s some thoughts about here. Is Oswin Oswald actually Clara? Will Clara someday be nicknamed Oswin and grow up to be the “woman” we met last week? Remember The Doctor never saw her, so if he meets her later he won’t recognize her. More significantly, she never asked the question; when he said “The Doctor” she did not say “Doctor Who?”. If this doesn’t make any sense (spoiler coming) it’s because the new companion that we get as a Christmas Present, Clara, is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman and Oswin (who you met last week) is also played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Or is Jenna-Louise Coleman just playing two different characters. That’s kind of a coincidence if you factor in there are only four episodes between last week and the Christmas special. Amy and Martha both had appearances (as different characters) in earlier episodes, but they didn’t know that they were going to be playing companions in the future, this was done knowing that. On purpose…

I actually thought they were bringing her in early and lying about her starting at Christmas. That would have been a fun surprise.

And yes, that’s right, I said only four episodes in-between last week and the Christmas special. Sadly, this half-season of Doctor Who is only five episodes, September 1-29th…
