Grey’s Anatomy – Season Premiere

So I finally got around to watching it. I know it’s been sitting there for days but I just didn’t get to it until now. And the bonus is I can probably say anything about the episode without ruining it for anyone since I’m sure everyone else has seen it.

I was highly entertained. I liked them all dealing with their own interns. Lots of action going on (although some parts seemed really slow). Izzie and the deer was silly story-line, but I enjoyed it. Lexie telling George to just suck it up, you just delivered a baby and how cool is that. I’m really liking Lexie’s character so far but I’m thinking the ‘Meridith is my sister’ stuff is going to get old. She reminds me of someone but I’ve never seen her in anything. Thinking about it, the good story-lines were all George, Izzie and Lexie this episode.

But the one thing that kept bugging me all episode was that we all know, in the long run, George is not going to stay with Callie and how long are they going to drag this out. I just don’t see them staying together; I don’t know if that means that he’ll end up with Izzie, but I don’t see them together (they’ve never been a good plot-line) and I just don’t want them dragging the story-line out for the next few seasons. And then there was the that last scene of the show (which I won’t mention just in case you haven’t seen it yet)…

I gotta say though, the first season was the best season and it’ll be hard for them to beat it. The characters were fresh and they didn’t need any gimmicks for the show and it was just different somehow. They sure jammed a lot into the 9 episode season! Back then Meridith used to be a whole lot cuter because as time went on you found out just how screwed up she really was (is); so that TV crush has kinda gone bye-bye…

Pay The Rent!

I thought this was hysterical!!!!
I stole this from Jodi at faster pussycat… type! type!.

Stargate Atlantis – Season 4 Premire

What a pleasant surprise to notice that the season premiere of Stargate Atlantis was in my now playing list this morning, I didn’t ever realize the new season started last night. Since Stargate SG-1 ended last season, Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) will on Atlantis now so we’ll get to see her bicker more with Rodney. And the lovely Jewel Staite will be sticking around fro (at least) the whole season as Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel most recently played Kaylee on Serenity / Firefly).

Lots of action and effects. It was a non-stop episode and I really enjoyed it. But I’m completely tired of the replicators, it’s just time for a new villain, or just a season of StarTrek-type exploration. And I’ll miss Daniel Jackson…

Semi-spoiler – I just noticed someone missing from the splash page at http://www.scifi.com/atlantis/, that must not happen for a episode or two yet…

What a Wonderful World

Wow! I never could really do shadow puppets myself…

Amazingly well done! You will be impressed.

Get Paid $9557 to Sleep!

So you have to spend 47 consecutive days and nights living at the hospital in your own room but it does pay you $9557. I thought it might be interesting, especially if out of a job (or really bored). But here’s the downside:

You will not know what time it is during the 47-day study, and the room has no windows, clocks, TV, and you will not be allowed to bring devices that tell time. You will also not have access to a telephone during the 47-day study.

Holy cow! I think it’s really a suicide study. Or some kind of reality TV show. I’ve got to assume that means no ‘net access either!!!

You will be told when to go to sleep and when to wake up, when to shower, and when to eat your meals. You will also have to take performance tests on a computer in your room many times each day. In between these study activities you will have free time, but your free time will be interrupted frequently.

Actually, it does say “at no time are you being recorded on video or audiotape” so I guess it’s not a reality show. All the info is in the SlickDeals post if you’re interested…

Superman: Doomsday 99 cents

SupermandoomsdaySo Amazon Unbox is having their usual 99 cent sale again this weekend (six different movies). Usually the movies don’t show up cheap until Friday, but it seems to be working today (and there are a few reruns from last week).

This weekend they’ve got Superman: Doomsday, interesting movie it’s based on the whole Death of Superman story-line from 10+ years ago but it was an entertaining movie (I watched it last week on a day I was home sick). Voices by Adam Baldwin, Anne Heche respectively as Superman/Clark and Lois. It was odd though with the amount of death and violence in it, this isn’t a kid’s movie at all. Note the bloody Superman logo, it’s representative of the movie. Lex Luthor is ruthless and totally evil! At least Doomsday was an evil mutant from space!

So if you’re interested it’s worth the 99 cents (at least it entertained me while I was sick). You can download it to your TiVo (which rocks) or your Windows PC (which PC say is an okay process). I think you can even buy them straight from your TiVo menu now, but I haven’t tried that.

This weekend they also have:

  • Lonely Hearts
  • I Think I Love My Wife
  • Lucky You
  • Zodiac
  • The Contract
The movies change weekly so be sure to check back often; you have 30 days to start to watch them (but only 24 hours after you start watching to finish).

I just think this service to push movies down to your TiVo is totally cool. It’s NetFlix but without the mailing of the DVDs back and forth. If you use TiVo you need to try this.

(Later – I noticed this DVD at a store with a sticker on it: “The first Superman cartoon to be rated PG-13!!!”, like it was a bonus and not a warning)

  • Amazon MP3 store – 89 cent songs!

So Amazon opened the Amazon MP3 store which has been getting some good reviews and (most importantly) it semi-integrates by pushing your purchases into your iTunes which is great for automatic syncing with your iPod. They’ve had tracks for download for ages, but this is their big jump into the market (you do need their downloader for this).

Amazonmp3I actually spotting it yesterday when searching for some music but I didn’t realize the format change of my search results indicated a whole new service. I did notice that the tracks were only 89 cents though!

Keep in might for 89 cents they are a dime less than the iTunes music store for regular tracks but since there is no encryption (DRM) and it’s encoded at a higher quality (even than Apple I believe) these are 40 cents less than Apple’s $1.29 a song. That’s about 1/3 less if you’ve been getting the DRM-free higher quality songs (and that’s what I’ve been getting lately). And they are MP3s, so they play on just about anything (but higher quality does mean larger songs). Buying whole albums will generally discount the price. Continue reading

The Final Issue of Stuff Magazine

So I got the last issue of Stuff Magazine, no big loss, it was just a gadget/girls/media magazine (and it was free). It was marked “final issue” and “collectors item” so it wasn’t a surprise or anything that it was the last issue (and a lot of the similar magazines have been dying lately).

The weird thing was (wait for it…) there were still subscription cards inside the magazine! What are they going to do charge me and then send me a substitute?
